THe U-Verse ads here cliam the ability to record up to 4 programs at the same time. What they don't tell you is that the programs are SD. From what I hear U-verse can only deliver 1 HD stream at a time.

This week, AT&T and Verizon both said they would start offering digital video recorders to some subscribers to their respective U-verse and FiOS fiber-optic television services as they try to gain ground on larger satellite and cable companies who have begun offering similar services.
AT&T's U-verse this week said it's launching its Total Home DVR service, which allows customers to watch as many as two live HD programs and three recorded programs at the same time. The DVRs also store as many as 37 hours of high-definition programming or 133 hours of standard-definition content.
Meanwhile, Verizon said this week that about 80,000 Washington state households who this month gain access to FiOS will get a year's free use of an HD DVR if they order the service by early next month. Such customers, who usually would pay about $20 a month for the service, would be able to record three HD programs at their home while watching a fourth.

u-verse in many markets can do 2HD streams. Should be system wide early next year. My understanding is the whole house DVR can record 4 streams (all sd) while watching 4 recorded sd programs at the same time for a total of 8 different programs on 8 different TVs.
With HD shows you can watch 3 recorded shows and 2 live shows at the same time on 5 different TV's.

I have been a long standing DTV customer, and have been quite happy, and love my current box (HR21) for function and looks. Just sick of the high bill.
So I am on the verge to either jumping to Dish ($13 less) or as my wife would like,a Uverse bundle. I was all for it until some of the negative reviews I have seen. If there is only one HD feed, does this mean you cant record 2 HD shows at once? Or watch one and record one? This is a big factor in my decision.

Yep. In many markets (mine included) you can only view one HD feed on Uverse. This includes recording.

That's correct. Dish and DirecTV get a lot of "reconnect" jobs from people who had Uverse installed for a week (or less) and then come back. In my area, it requires a complete re-install because the Uverse techs cut and remove as much of the satellite cables as they can. The only people I know of who are happy with Uverse are the absolute misers who will go to any length to save a few cents a month. You give up a lot to go to Uverse for TV.
And a 37-hour "whole house" DVR? What a joke. Between 3 DVRs (all of them dual-tuner), I probably record 37 hours A DAY. A whole-house DVR should have AT LEAST a terabyte of storage, and 2 or more preferably.
That's not entirely true as they started rolling out 2HD service back in May and claim that they'll finish by next spring. For instance everyone in Detroit gets 2HD. I've had U-Verse... twice... and both times they sucked. The bigger issue is AT&T billing, which for me has always been wrong and I would have to call each month and go through an hour and a half with them.
I loved Dish Network, but at my current property I can't get service and I'm locked into a 12 month deal with Time Worthless Cable.

Hehe, after you cut out the commercials, the promos, and the opening and closing credits and all that stuff, you have maybe 8 hours of watchable programming. My wife follows 3 soaps and can watch a week's worth (5*3 = 15 hours) in less than 2 hours because she even fast forwards past some boring parts to get to the juicy scenes....
