Does anyone know if it would be okay to mount the Dish ViP222 HD DVR vertically? I would like to tie wrap it to the back of my entertainment center for better cooling as it is getting very hot in the equipment cabinet. Thank you.

I'd be concerned primarily about how well the cooling works when the machine isn't in its normal position. While some of it is fan driven, it is apparent that other elements are convection cooled. Whether placing the unit on its side back or front affects the performance is anybody's guess.

The hard drive probably isn't going to be a problem.

It is clear that mounting the receiver in a hot box is clearly the wrong thing to do.

I've had mine for nine months and the whole time it has been sitting on it's side with the vents up behind a cabinet and up against a wall and I have had absolutely no problems.
