I'm sure it's been covered over and over, but will Dish ever be capable of On Demand programming, like HowardTV, WWE 24/7, etc.? Are they even working on it, or is it always going to be something that cable will have over the sat. companies...

There are two methods that DISH is currently providing "demand" type video.
1. VOD 501 channels. These will be channels that have content streamed to a special HD partition (a hidden one that does not subtract from the users storage space) to then be able to be viewed anytime you choose. These will be primarily PPV and have an appropriate charge.
The 1080P "I Am Legend" and future 1080P content will be performed this way.
2. DishONLINE. A demand service that works with the Internet, so the "download" times will depend on your internet connection. Some of this is pay content and some is free.
With my 768Kbps internet connection, a PPV movie I tried took 12 hours to download. However, once downloaded I could choose when to view it. It is valid for 24hours from the start of your view choice. So you could select to download a number of movies and then at a later date (expiration on mine was a long time away) view them.
Overall, I'm not disappointed with the speed as mailorder rentals are still going to be a day minimum for delivery. As internet speeds increase and when I upgrade my ISP's service, this will only improve.
So if DISH works out an agreement with HowardTV, you'll likely see this by DishONLINE.

True, but what is the monthly cost? How many movies "minimum" do you need to rent to return on the investment?SaltiDawg said:

Possibly, I see that their minimum package is 2 movies per month for $4.99 with also 2 hours of streamed content. If one is going to view more movies the price goes up to $8.99, but that's unlimited streaming.
DISH does need to seriously consider dropping their PPV pricing in reflection. Just might get Netflix at that price.

Hmm,
I see there are a couple of NetFlix capable TV viewing devices. Would be extremely interesting if DISH worked out a deal with NetFlix and added that to the ViP 722. Might bring NetFlix subscribers into the DISH fold for "Live TV" and a device that also works with the NetFlix library.

With State Tax, I pay $14.83 per month and I am allowed two DVD's at one time on an unlimited basis. I receive the DVD's the day after they are mailed and Netflix receives my returns the day after I mail them. I have averaged just over 24 DVD's per month for $14.83 per month. (~$0.62 per DVD.)DishSatUser said:

starz on demand they had a channel 5747 but removed it and now go to dhi channel or press dish then select 7 then starz ondemand not in effect yet though

I hadn't noticed that they removed the 5747 jump to starz on demand. However going through DHI still works, and one movie is still shown on one of my DVR's. Probably the rest got flushed with all the other stuff (olympics, I am legend) that were loaded down in the last few weeks.dishlover2 said:
