I spend my days wandering around the house turning off light switches that the kids have left on. It's a dad thing.

I was getting annoyed that the rugrats were powering off the TV but leaving the 612 on when they finished watching the tube. Whenever I would see the blue "HDTV" light glowing on the 612 I would grab the remote and power it off, only to find it back on the next time I walked into the room.

The other night I was the last one up, and turned off the 612 on my way to bed. The following morning when I woke up at 5 a.m. to go to work, the rest of the family was still sleeping but - you guessed it - the 612 was on.

What's the deal - poltergeists? Insomniac kids watching TV in stealth mode at 2 a.m.? Or something with the box?

My 722 never does this, is it a quirk with the 612?

Since its a DVR it is never off. When you press the red power button on the remote all you really do is put it in standby mode. It still burns power and the HDD still spins.

That being said, my receivers don't usually go from standby to active mode without some help. The nightly update will cause a reboot but it should go back to standby. The only thing I know of that will take it out of standby automatically is an auto-tune timer. That will do it for sure. I don't have a 612 but I assume they work like a 622/722 in that area. And, I have seen the receivers be "on" in the morning for no reason that I know of. But, that is rare.

My 612 has frozen up a few times with no choice but to push and hold the reset button or unplug it. And it will sometimes lose sound too and have to rewind or press replay to get it back. I changed from hdmi to component to see if it would stop, but it didn't.
