I searched for this on the forums and overall google search and have found nothing. Maybe someone here can help me out.

Whenever we have bad weather and lose our satellite signal (mostly snow but also some heavy rains), the "My Media" button disappears from the Dish Menu. I have a 1TB external hard drive with over 150 movies stored on it, and it seems ridiculous that whenever we lose our signal we also lose access to our movie collection. Anyone ever seen this issue before? Recently I just got connected to broadband too and downloaded a free movie, which is stored in the "My Rentals" area. Now this doesn't disappear when we lose our signal, but when we try to play it back when our signal is lost, we just get a black screen. Any ideas? I can't believe things would be designed this way so my conclusion is that something is not configured properly in my receiver.

I can only somewhat give an answer because I don't have a 622 receiver. But on other receivers losing the Dish signal does not take away the use of the external hard drive unless there has not been a signal for long time, as in days.
Is the hard drive plugged in at the time the satellite signal is lost or do you plug it in after losing the satellite signal?
