VIP622 vs. Tivo S3

At this point, is anyone using or has access to both DVRs and able to make a comparison? Simply reading the Tivo forum, it appears that the new Tivo S3 has significant issues with cable cards, cable companies in addition to the actual DVR. Comparing the number and type of Tivo complaints to the concerns on the VIP622 forum, it seems to me that, at least at this point, the VIP622 is clearly a superior DVR.

Wow, I thought that I'd never see they day when it was stated that a Dish DVR was superior to a Tivo. I will say that my 622 has been great.

I wonder if Tivo fixed the EPG speed? I remember a friend's HD Tivo was unusably slow when it came to navigating its guide.
It cannot possibly be worse. If the Tivo software capabilities to find and record shows in the S3 is anything like the S2 it easily surpasses the 622.

I currently have a 622 and two Tivo S2s. I much prefer the software in the S2s, I just wish I could get a Tivo that recorded Dish Network HD (in HD).

You would have to be pretty addicted to subscribe to both DishHD and Digital Cable.

Because there is very little common ground between the two in terms of what systems they work with (the only thing they have in common is ATSC and TiVo should win the guide data battle there), you would be better off comparing programming services. If you are a Dish Network subscriber the TiVo S3 is less flexible than a TiVo S2 as the S3 can only accept RF inputs.

As far as I'm concerned the one thing that the TiVo S3 has that the ViP622 should have had is two OTA tuners.

I respectfully disagree with you on this. Different yes. I had a S2 for 3 years before getting my 942. After getting used to the differences I found the 942 to be a much superior machine to the S2. I have since replaced the 942 with a 622 (actually 2 of them). I find the 622 to be a much superior machine to the Tivo S2 as well. I have not tried a Series 3 and do not plan to as they are greatly limited as to what programming they can view and recored (eg DISH).
I have both. The S3 for OTA/QAM and the 622 for everything else. Both are excellent DVR's. :) Haven't had to deal with CC. Wouldn't hold to much against Tivo for the CC problems. The cable companies have no reason to get them to work (make more $$$ with their own box).
