ViP722 Digital OTA Input Options

I recently upgraded from DVR 510's to ViP722's. My security camera was fed into the OTA input on the 510's with an analog Channel 4 modulated signal and worked great until I decided to upgrade !!!

The heading under HDTV Setup says "Analog Type" but it really only receives digital signals I have come to find out. There are four opions that are available A) OFF AIR (assume this is ATSC) and (B) CABLE (assum this QAM ????) and (C) HRC ( is it QAM ???) and (D) (is it QAM ???).

I almost went into cardiac arrest when I found out how much a digital ATSC modulator costs compared to my old reliable anlaog NTSC unit. Anyone know if my assumptions are correct for the four inputs ? Anyone have any ideas about getting an anolog CCTV 75 ohm video (and mono audio) signal into the 722 ?

Why do you need to feed to the 722, feed it stright to TV

There are several reasons:

1. We want to use the TV/video toggle button on the DISH remote
2. There is only one RF input on the back of each TV
3. Pulling additional cables in this house is difficult
4. All of the 722's are located in one location

I don't believe that will work with the 722 since there is no coaxial output for tv1 on that receiver. i will have to experiment to be sure though.

2. There is only one RF input on the back of each TV

what else are you using in the rf inputs?

just tested it, tv/video does not toggle to the antenna on the 722. probably because it has the local channel scan built into the guide

I was concerned that might be the case since the 6.3 user guide does not show any functionality in the SAT mode for that button. I'm feeding all of the TV's using cexisting house coax on TV1 for now. So even if I had a digital modulator, the security camera would have to be added to the program guide as a "channel" ?

Does your security camera have Video and Audio outputs? If it does X10.com has video senders that you can connect to the Composite Video connections of your TV.

The other advantage of feeding the security camera into the 722 is that it will be active in the PIP mode......

I'm trying to avoid having to do a wire pull to each TV location for another input to the TV's whcih don't have PIPanyway. Unfortunately, I overlooked these small differences between the 510 and 722 funtionality before I made the conversion !!!

FYI, those video senders and receivers work slick as this is how I get the gate camera to the house 3000 ' away !!!

correct. so instead of hitting tv/video, you would just go to ch.4 in your guide (or whatever channel you got it to come through digitally on)

you already have coax lines going to each room correct? what do you have connected to the coax inputs on each tv already?

Try a splitter backwards in the RF out of 722 to the TVs, this will mix the Ch 4 from camera and what ever channel you have the 722 set to.

That's a good idea except my TV's don't have a PIP function so somehow I need to figure out how to get the camera into the 722 and I am choking over the cost of a ATSC or QAM modulator !

What has PIP have to do wth putting both signals on the cable to your TV. A QAM modolator will do you no good. The 722 does not have a QAM tuner

You need to stop thinking about getting the signal into the 722 and just get it into the cable to your TVs. Even if you had ATSC modulator if it does not have the proper PSIP info the 722 will not pick it up.
