I have my 722's audio going through HDMI to my LCD TV, then the TV's optical out hooked to my Onkyo receiver. The receiver only has optical inputs, no HDMI.

Using the same Toslink cable if I connect the 722 direct to the receiver I get no sound.

Also, I see no red light from the optical out port of the 722. Thinking that maybe the optical out doesn't function when the HDMI port is in use I disconnected the HDMI cable. Still no light seen.

Well, I was sort of hoping that someone with an Onkyo reciever would respond. But on the 722, people regularly use the optical out along with the HDMI to their TV. It should work. In fact, you can simultaneously run two TV's, one on HDMI and the other component video/optical audio. I know that's not much help, but it gives you a place to start.

Do you have the "digital/pcm" audio output setting set up correctly on the 722? Depending on what your receiver wants to see, you may have to adjust that setting (check your manual). I have HDMI and an optical cable hooked up at the same time, so I know it does work... That or maybe you have a bad box? :(

Can you guys actually see a light eminating from the back of the 722's digital audio ouput port? I don't and figure, correctly or otherwise, that fooling with all the settings on the Onkyo box won't make much diff if it isn't getting a signal in the first place.

It seems like there's a "door" there, so I don't think so....but I could be wrong. I'd still try messing with those settings if I were you just in case...

Normally the light bleeds through a bit, obviously easier to seen in a darker setting. I'll give the settings a shot but I've already plugged the optical into the 722 and see no light on the other end :(

Yeah....you might try a different optical cable just in case that one has a "break", but that doesn't sound promising... :(

Good news - shipping a replacement, basically no questions asked.

Bad news - they want to hit me with a $40 activation fee to enable offloading of recorded content from the defective unit to an external hard drive.

By the way, their online chat support is superior to phoning them. Quicker too.
