Does anyone have a mike that works with Vista Speech Recognition? I just purchased a Logitech mike and get zip from it.

Dumbb question (maybe) but did you check that the MIC input wasn't muted in the sound control panel?

Also, on my Vista, I cculd only have one input audio source active at a time until I went to the audio settings and chose to "bridge" input sources, then multiple inputs worked.

Where is the sound control panel? I looked and searched and cannot find it.

I did find the NVIDIA sound panel. That doesn't seem to be what you are talking about.

I think it is the mike I bought. I found everything and it refuses to record. I'll be back.

I think I mixed up the location of mute, but try this:

Start > Control Panel > Hardware & Sound > Manage Audio Devices

Check out the options on the Recording tab. In my case, I have two options for "Mic", one back-panel and one front-panel. If a Mic is plugged in an detected, you should see it here, and you should have a Configure button at the bottom of the Recording tab that leads to options on the Ease of Access > Speech recognition Options panel (like Set up microphone), etc.

On my Vista PC, I also have Realtek HD Audio manager, and on the Mic Tab, it can be muted or unmuted..

I don't have a mic plugged in, but actually was using the mic port as a line-in port, so I can't comment much about tweaking speech recognition settings ...

Hope this helps, though!

D'oh! I type slow! Before you run back to the store, see if anything I just posted will help ...

Spent an hour on the Net with someone somewhere at some HP phone center and he finally gave up. I sure did learn a lot and after his final message I looked at the machine and thought "why not reboot". And it worked! Now I feel like Captain Kirk on the Enterprise. Cool. Thanx for the help.

Thanx, Drew. Man, Vista is sure an interesting OS. After teaching all the Windows (and pre-windows) operating systems, and being bored enough to quit teaching, this is refreshing and challenging. I also bought a manual for the OS, but it was no help getting the mike working. But, it sure does work now.

Thanx again,

Rich
Funny, I had trouble getting my mike to work at first with Vista too. Then once it started, no problems since. I seem to recall it took a reboot to get it started as well.

I switched speaker systems yesterday and that took a reboot to recognize the new speakers, too. Interesting OS, no?
