Hey All:

Feel free to move this if it is in the wrong forum.

With Comcast capping downloads now and the removal of newsgroups from their service, I am looking to go back to DSL with AT&T. Given the amount of VOD downloads I am doing from my two HR-20s in addition to the other stuff downloading on some six PCs in my home, I figure I will be a victim of the 250GB cap sooner rather than later. Some of you I know (including Earl) live near me in Frankfort, IL. For those of you who do and have AT&T DSL, what has your experience been? I tried it four years ago and left running away, screaming in horror at the experience!

I know it is slower, but it is also cheaper and they offer DSL naked these days as well.

Thanks in advance!

I've been very please with my AT&T DSL, after fighting with my cable modem & company for over a year.
I have 6 Mb/s that tests @ 5 and have it 100% of the time, unlike my cable [3 Mb/s] that would "test" fine, but through put could be as low as 10% of the time.
Tech support is great "IF" you get to level 2. Level one can come from anywhere, but level 2 comes from two places: Texas & California.

I'm right down the street in New Lenox, and switched to AT&T DSL from Comcast a couple years ago. For me, DSL is cheaper and FAR MORE STABLE than Comcast ever was for me. I have the Elite service (6MB), and pay somewhere around $30 a month for it. My tests are VERY CONSISTENT at the 5,125 level - all the time, day or night, weekday or weekend. It's so stable that I don't even do speedtests anymore. In fact, I think I've only reset my router and/or DSL modem once, maybe twice in the 2+ years I've had it. With Cable, it was probably at least once a month.

With all that being said, I have experienced some issues in the past with VOD and my AT&T service. When this first launced several months ago, my downloads would be very slow - painfully slow, if at all. I could use one of my different HR20s and it would be fine though. Could never quite figure out if it was my DSL or Directv's issue. I don't use VOD much, but I did download a couple shows a few weeks ago that seemed to DL fine.
