VOD without Satellite In cable?

Due to construction on my house, I have one HR20-700 hooked up to my TV via HDMI but with no Satellite In connection. I just use it "temporarily" to watch previously-stored movies.

Question: That HR20-700 is close to my computer. Can I plug in my internet connection and get VOD stuff WITHOUT having that receiver plugged into the satellite?

If I cannot, then it's kinda just sitting there useless for a month or two, except for those stored movies.

I don't think it can as the guide data comes from the sat. I could very well be wrong on this, but I understood that is how it works. Without guide data, you are out of luck.

"I think" if there was a way around this, it would be to order the VOD from the DirecTV website.

Good idea VOS, won't cost anything to try. This place amazes me, just when I thought I had heard and read every possible question, a new one comes up:)
Yes VOS, possibly. I just plugged it into my router and I'll just leave it overnight. When I hit MENU the only thing I get (without the Satellite connected) is SETUP etc.

I'll try in the morning (even with no Guide) to order something to download from the internet and see if it records. Probably not, but ... :)
You also need to not have put your account on hold...
I didn't put my account on hold nor did I deactivate that receiver. The VOD doesn't work without access to the MENU to set the receiver up for VOD. It might not work even if it had been set up. So, now it will just sit there with it's cute little blue light on with no access to the satellite until the construction is done. At least I can watch the movies that are stored on it.

The signal to start downloading the VOD is sent over the satellite, so that wouldn't work.
