I'm a long-time Dish user that has been (patiently?) waiting for a way to get the network channels in HD from anywhere. I'm in the Flint/Saginaw (Michigan) DMA and currently get my SD locals from them via Dish, of course.
I've tried an antenna -- but things are just too far away to get anything at my location. So, as I said, I've just been waiting.
Now -- a coworker just signed up for DirecTV. They immediately requested waivers for him so that he could get distant HD for the networks. Both ABC and FOX responded within a week and granted the requests. So, he now gets the four networks in SD from our local DMA -- and he now gets FOX and ABC in HD out of New York. (He's still waiting on the other two waivers.)
I am under the impression that Dish can't do this. Is that correct? I don't understand why this would differ by satellite company. Shouldn't DMA laws regarding distants and networks be the same? Or is it that Dish hasn't worked something out yet?
Please fill me in. If I can get a waiver for FOX and ABC -- can I do like him and get a distant HD feed for them out of New York?
(I need my Lost in HD, people!
