Many of my channels were dark (C-SPAN, for example) and giving a searching for satellite message.

Both of my receivers were affected.

After 8am (ish), they were back

Are they having satellite problems? Should we be concerned?

I can confirm that when I tried to turn on Boomerang this morning for the kids, it was out. Did not have time to check the other channels. Sprout and Noggin were fine.

I also noticed many channels were searching for sattelite. I thought it was related to a heavy windstorm we were having during the early morning hours. Channels were back up and running this morning.

Something definitely happened. Both of my HR20s (which are connected to separate dishes) were only able to receive MPEG-4 locals on Friday morning -- every other channel was black. Also, neither one would play back content that was already recorded. I restarted each one, and normal operation resumed. I thought that was very bizarre, until I saw some reports here and other places about other people experiencing the same thing. Whatever happened, the HR20 didn't like it.

No backup generator?? That would seem kinda crazy for such a mission critical operation.
Just because there was a power outage doesn't mean there isn't a backup generator. Whether or not the backup generator worked is a different story.
