watching old files on r15

I want to watch some of the shows that are on a R15 that I have that stopped working. I don't think there is anything wrong with the basic machine. It will not read the smart card anymore. I would like to be able to watch what is already recorded. Anyone have any ideas. I would even be willing to install the hard drive from the r15 to a pc to watch the shows. I would be even more interested in being able to use the dvr as a stand alone unit. Thank you and hope you can share your ideas.

You can't use the receiver at all unless your DVR service is active, and since your R15 can't read the darn Access Card, you're screwed. I'm sorry. :(
Moving the drive to another R15 won't work. The recordings are encrypted, and part of the process includes the access card data. You will be able to see the name of the program, but will get an error when you try to watch it.

In order to watch the recorded material, you have to disonnect it befoere deactivating it. Some have posted about reactivating, disconnecting, then being able to watch. But, since your card is hosed, you're probably out of luck.
I would even be willing to watch the shows on a pc. How can I put this hard drive in a pc and get it to work? Someone must know how they to do this.
The only way at this time to do it is if you broke the VideoGuard CA, and DirecTV and NDS will sue you big time if you did .
