I like the way they have the Olympics coverage and even a cool interactive guide all in HD. After bashing them for a while I must say they do give us lagniappe. Try that with a cable provider.

DirecTV ALWAYS hits a home run with their interactive features for special sports events. The Masters, U.S. Open Tennis, and now the Olympics. Awesome job, DirecTV. I love having all the channels next to each other, and the NBC Event Guide helps quickly find what's currently being played.

OK. I am a bit confused by the interactive features ... and DirecTV's website doesn't seem to be much help.

I get that you have to be on one of the 750s channels to use the red-button (so it doesn't work if I am watching the primary network feed on NBC).

But the interactive guide doesn't seem to give much information about what events are on, just broad categories without any way to drill down to more detail. Is there a way to find out exactly which events are being aired when?

I tried the NBC website, which gives more detail. But I really want to be able to find out things like "the Women's 100m qualifying heat, which was happened at 7:44 am this morning is being shown on NBC at between 4:30 and 5:00 this evening. Is there a way to find this?

Also on the NBC website, they talk about a Basketball channel and Soccer channel? Is DirecTV not carrying it, or am I looking in the wrong place?

Soccer and basketball each have their own dedicated channels, 750-756.
I only see the following channels in the 750s:

750 USA
751 CNBC
752 MNBC
753 OXGN

And these seem to be just duplicates of

242 USA
355 CNBC
356 MNBC
251 OXGN

What am I doing wrong? Aren't there supposed to be special Olympic channels?

Are you viewing this on an HD (non-TiVo) receiver? Non-HD boxes will not see the HD only channels (754 - Basketball, 755 - Soccer, 756 - Universal HD).

I believe basketball and soccer are only if you have HD

No. I have an R15. This is disappointing. I can't believe DirecTV isn't showing the SD versions of the Basketball and Soccer channels for their SD customers.

I thought DirecTV promised special Olympic channels. But it seems all I get are the regular USA/Oxygen/CNBC/MSNBC channel rebroadcast a second time with new channel numbers. And I don't get the basketball, soccer, or local NBC subchannels that my neighbors with Comcast get.

Way to go D*!
