What Do You Think
The cost is what the market will bear. I personally think it's gotten too high, but DirecTV will price it at a level that attracts enough subscribers to recoup their (major) costs for the package plus a profit.

Other providers had the opportunity to bid on the package. DirecTV won. The NFL does not want it to be available to all providers, as that would cause additional friction with the networks and their affiliates.

I also think you should work on your Message Formatting. :)

Prices are not low on the packages that others do offer like the NBA or the NHL or MLB. It would seem that the price would be lower but why would it? Would there be a signficantly higher number of subscribers if the NFL were available on other systems or would it just mean fewer subscribers for DirecTV?

I do believe, however, that D* isn't pricing their Sunday Ticket package correctly. I know many football fans (myself included) that won't pay $300 to watch non-locally televised games. Many of those that I talk to about it, would definitely consider $200 (myself included again).

I think that if D* dropped the price to $200 they could almost double their subscriptions (and hence, make more money).

When the Jets move to their new stadium, my ticket prices (per seat) will go from $115 to $500. This is in addition to a new Personal Seat License of $15,000 per seat. I split six seats with my sister. I will NOT my season tickets at those prices.

NFLST is a bargain to me.

I think you are right. If you compare D*'s MLB package w/HD to that of Comacst's it amazing how much more you get with D*. Now I'm not sure how much more D* charges for their MLB w/superfan, but I'm sure they charge more than Comcast. D* really stepped up their game with the MLB package this year though.

+1 If Directv lost exclusivity with the Sunday Ticket package, the NFL would have the package priced close to what Directv charges as do the other sports packages. There would be some migration back to cable but I don't think that much. We will see when the package is back up for renewal;)

I was thinking the same thing. What is it w/ people capitalizing every word? Besides, isn't it time-consuming?

It's not out of hand. A ticket to a game plus a few beers and hot dogs then add parking, now THAT's out of hand.

I don't think it would ever be less expensive than it was the previous year regardless of what combination of carriers offered it. For better or worse, the bar has already been set.

Like everyone, sure I go 'ughh' each year when it goes up, but for me its worth it. I think 20 bucks a week to see my team is still fair.

Besides, it also helps make the NHL,MLB and NHL packages look like a sweet deal!

Actually, I think prices would go UP if everyone offered it... Here is why... The deals that they cut with all the Networks would not be as good for the networks because they would no longer be exclusive... One of the reason you only find ST on Directv is to help protect that exclusivity... No exclusivity means less money from networks, and the means they would need to make it up somewhere else.. and guess who someone else would be in this case... subs to ST....
