Is the HR20-700 more prone to interference than say Phillips Tivo DVR? It seems the slightest weather causes this interference.

No. But your dish installation might be. Did you get a new AT9 dish when you added the HR20? Perhaps it's not tweaked for the best signal on all satellites.

Take a look at your satellite signal levels on the setup screen.

I get rain fade with some of the MPEG-2 HD channels, but it's a dish alignment and tree issue.
