I just received my second HR-20 two days ago after my first one had complete lock-up. Now 4 days later, the 2nd one has just has a complete lock-up. It just clicks; can't reset; NOTHING!! I had no complaints with Directv until now! I now want to just change my service to someone else. I have at least 9 months to try another service until I will need my Sunday Ticket package. This is freakin' unbelievable what a POS the HR-20 is!!!!!!

What do you mean it just clicks? Mine has locked up a few times (not since the last update), but never "clicked."

It sounds like the "big wheel" on the Price Is Right. This is ridiculous!! I hook up my old non-DVR HD receiver and not a problem. Although the picture is not quite as good, it is not worth the hassle!! Maybe I will change to DISH!

It is interesting that you had two boxes do this exact same odd thing.

Can you tell where the clicking is coming from? When it is locked up is the screen just black?

How long did you use it before it locked up? What where you doing when it locked up?

Really? On TWO boxes? That's bizzare.

Hopefully, Dish will be perfect for you. They wasn't for me.

It would basically lock up during recordings and the switching to live TV. It missed recordings, cut recordings short, etc. I will not get another one!!

2 boxes doing the same exact thing sounds pretty weird. Plug it in without anything connected to it, no dish antenna hooked up, no OTA antenna hooked up, no tv outputs connected. Does it still click ?

Is everything wired right?

Do you even want help or is this ANOTHER venting thread?

If it clicks then it's a bad hard drive most likely. Bad luck but you'll need a replacement.

And make sure you've got a UPS that it's connected to. If you have weird power spikes/brownouts (which you may not even know about) that can easily fry the hard drive or other internal components. Everyone should have a UPS to protect their home theater equipment.
