Last night I rec'd a call from D* CS following up on a recent technical support call I had made. I had to chuckle, since I've probably called them 20 times since I first rec'd the HR20's a month ago, but I guess maybe D* is getting the message.

Nonetheless, she asked me if I had resolved my problems, and I replied not, since the problems are freezeups and guide issues (losing recording commands) and the like, and kindly reflected that I wouldn't expect them to be resolved for the time being.

She sounded kinda confused that I was so goodnaturedly reporting that my issues weren't cleared, but I was in a good mood (hadn't had a freeze up or lost show yet that eveining - that came later), and I cut her some slack and sent her on her way, reminding her that I was optimistic that D* would soon solve all our HR20 problems through upgrades. She sounded even more confused about that.

I found the situation amusing, in light of all the struggles and ongoing pain, but then, I have to blame myself (as my wife continues to do) for needing the be an early adopter. NEVER AGAIN.

I had a follow up call as well (about 3 weeks ago), but it wasn't from D*, it was from a survey company that D* has hired. Discussing any problems resulted in a completely puzzled response. I have a feeling that your call was from the same company.
I asked to be contacted and have yet to get a call.

Just watching a recording of Weeds (Showtime on MPEG2) and every time the sound drops out and the picture pixelates (and those are just the minor problems, as you know), my wife gives me a dirty look. This is getting very painful. I echo your sentiment: Never again. I should have stuck with the H20 and non-recording HD.

How happy are you with the H20? I have been thinking of getting one to replace my old RCA receiver in another room. I assume any deal I would cut would include installation and the new AT-9 dish? There's no HD TV in that room, but the ability to receive the HD package out there would be of some benefit, even on a 4x3 fed S-video. (36" CRT)

If I had known it was going to be this much of a headache I would have also stayed with the HR10-250 until all the bugs were worked out of the HR20-700. I had a chance to get the HR20-700 & 5 LNB dish at no cost so I jumped on it becuase I didn't no how long that offer would last. The HR10-250 is in the bedroom and works great. My wife comes out of the bedroom at night and keeps wondering why I'm always resetting the HR20. She shakes her head and goes back to watching her programs on the HR10-250. I jumped the gun and now I'm paying for it. I can only hope they get to the bottom of it before I throw this thing out the window.
