What am I missing?

When I replaced my 941 with the 622, I was able to remove a 508 from the system and serve that SD set with the 2nd output on the 622. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but I'd now like to replace the set which was served by the 508 with a HD unit; but, as we know, the 2nd feed from the 622 is only SD.

When I called Dish to see about adding a 211 to my receivers, I was told "it was impossible." I expectd a somewhat different answer to a question which would have given them more income, but all I got from the 1st responder was "that's the way it is." Theoretically, can't I sign up for DirectTV and get the equipment and installation for free? I realize that's not really practical, especially in my environment, but can anyone give me their views on how I might add a HD signal to another set in my house without the costs and confusion of creating a 2nd account. I don't even need it to be a PVR. I guess I might get something on eBay, but there's an installation and integration issue into my bill.

Before I "improved" my system, I just paid an extra $5 for the 508, which I owned.

The phone-answer-er at Dish said to check with Costco, Radio Shack or Sears. I checked with Costco, but wasn't able to get any worthwhile information, so I thought I check with this forum's enormous font of knowledge to see what to do.

I orignally thought that I could split the 2nd output from the 622 with a separator, and send it to the HDTV, but those who know better on this board quickly disabused me of that idea.

Sorry to go on so long, but I was wondering if there were any ideas to try.

Thanks.

Mike

There is no output on the 622 that can feed another dish receiver.

The "Home Distribution" output will allow you to view TV2 (and TV1 with a change in default settings) on an analog TV set elsewhere in your home (or can be split to multiple other sets).

If you want another receiver at another location it will need a feed directly from your dish/switch - not from your 622.

You can split the component HDTV signal to output to multiple HD sets. That's how Circuit City, Best Buy, etc. does it. Of course all of the outputs will be from the TV1 HD output and will be watching the same signal. Here is a web site with a few examples.

If you want a second HDTV to have independant viewing of satellite channels, you will have to have a 211 or another 622. I have a 622, a 211 and a SD tuner. Dishnetwork would only supply me with recievers to compliment 4 satellite feeds from the switch. With that said, you can chain the switches and have additional receivers from a second switch. I have never seen this in action, but my installer said that it works well.

You removed an owned 508 when you leased two tuners on the 622. But you used plural on "adding a 211 to my receivers" so you probably have more than just the 622 now. Those COULD be what make it impossible. If you have two LEASED receivers in addition to the 622, you wouldn't be able to LEASE a 211 because it would exceed the 4 leased tuners / account rule. Right now, you wouldn't be able to add a 211 (or upgrade replace an existing receiver) because there is a limit of one upgrade every 12 months under the DIU promotion. If you got the 622 in Feb/Mar, you might be able to get the 211 a year from then.

There were special rules applicable to 921/942 (can't make out what you had from the 941 reference) owners that would have enabled you to get the 211 earlier in the year when they came out, but still have been able to upgrade the HD DVR to the 622. Eventhough you didn't do that, you MIGHT have some luck if you sent email to CEO (at) Echostar.com explaining the situation. If nothing else, they would at least be able to give you the reason you are told it is "impossible".

At the time I leased the 622, I had two receivers I owned; a 508 and a 721. I gave away the 508 and still have the 721. I think you clarified the issue with the promotion in saying you can only upgrade once every year. Currently, I have the leased 622 and the owned 721. Sorry, I mis-stated my earlier HD receiver. It was an owned 921. I sent it back to them for a $100 credit, which in retrospect wasn't such a good idea. 20-20 hindsight.

I'll probably try the email to the CEO address. Thank you and the others for comments. If anyone else has suggestions, please send them on.
I'll mention that a leased 211 will add $6/month to your bill. The DIU lease fee is even charged on the 1st receiver on the account, so it won't cost you any more to keep the 721 active on the account if you are able to get a leased 211 added. If you were to PURCHASE a 211 (< $250), you could replace the 721 and save that $6/month fee. If you are keeping the 721 active, you'd pay the same $6 / month for a 211 you own that you'd pay for the lease.

Thanks, again for your input.

What I'm after is for Dish to lease to me and and to install the 211 and then I'd pay the extra monthly fee as you describe. That's what the first responder said was impossible when I phoned them yesterday. I want to retain the 721 and the 622 just as they are. Here, I'm trying to give them more money and they don't make it easy. Go figure!!
It's most likely because you used the "dish 'n up" promo which is only allowed once per year. I used it to upgrade to the 622 in June and have been trying to get a 211 since. I finally got a supervisor override - but that was only after they put it in for a swap on an 811. Everthing they tried up to that point was disallowed by the computer.
