What can I expect for this install?

I currently have a 3-lnb dish with 4 cables running into my basement. Those are split into four feeds to four receivers, 1 of which is a HR10-250 in my home theatre. On Thursday they are coming to replace the dish with a 5 lnb slimline and swap out the HR10-250 and one of the SD receivers with 2 HD DVR boxes.

The HR10-250 is rack mounted and connected to an OTA atenna and fed through a scaler before it is sent to my projector in another room (a very long, expensive HDMI cable). The SD box is currently run through a stand alone Tivo Series 2 and an AV receiver.

I think I will need the four feeds converted to 6 to support the two feeds required for each of the HD DVR's. Don't think this is a problem with the multi-switch they are bringing.

Also, I already have two cable runs to the theatre rack area and to the other SD receiver area so I think I am fine on the wiring.

What are the odds that the installer will get this all hooked up correctly in the theatre rack and the other AV receiver? Is it reasonable to assume they know what they are doing with "inside" equipment versus just dishes, receivers and cables?

I know I am going to lose the OTA until I get the AM-21. I will have to get the AV company out to reprogram my remote (Pronto NG) for the new receivers. I've looked at doing that myself but that remote does so much right now, I'd hate to screw it up. I would probably have hired the AV company to do the whole thing but D* is giving me all of the equipment and install for $0 and I am willing to take a chance. I'm just a little nervous based on previous installers I've dealt with and some of the comments I've seen.

Should be pretty simple. I would be there and hook up the receivers or at least have it all laid out so it is easy for them to plug in.

Take the old receivers out, have the cables sitting their, etc. and it should go very easily.

Also have the displays setup correctly to display the proper input so they do not have to mess with that.
If you have a central or remote OTA antenna, make sure they leave you a cable just for that purpose. You'll want to keep on the installers about this.

I wouldn't line up a re-program on the remotes until you find that they don't work as expected. They may well work just fine.
Well I guess I was right to be concerned about the install, but for the wrong reasons. First, he only had 1 DVR, not 2 (though it was the HR22). Secondly, the bracket for mounting the dish was different that the one he had. And third, his ladder wasn't long enough to get to the part of my roof where the dish is. Net outcome - no installation, a wasted morning and a reschedule date for the end of October. Super.

What did the work order have on it?

Different, how?

And third, his ladder wasn't long enough to get to the part of my roof where the dish is.

Installer not from HSP? Taller than 28" ladder would reach?

Sorry
There were two seperate orders with the same date/time for the install. I called D* two days prior to confirm that they had been combined into one (as the older of the two showed cancelled online.) I was assured that they were. As it turns out the installer combined them into a single order thinking it was a duplicate.

The dish is mounted on the chimney. The bracket that was there would not fit the new dish and he preferred having to drill into masonary if he didn't have to. he thought he could get an adapter that would work.

He had a 28' but because of the angles on my roof and the location of the dish, he needed to get a 40' ladder that went right next to the dish and not one that would just get him on the roof.

The installer told me his supervisor would be calling me back to figure out a new time but that didn't happen.
OK - so I am now rescheduled for this Friday. I just called and had them put both orders together for that date. The CS Supervisor was emailing the installer to make sure they got the message and to bring a big enough ladder! Hope round 2 works better.
