An LCD is a good choice for outdoor viewing but a Slimline can be very difficult to use as a portable dish. It is not impossible, just requires muck more accurate alignment that the old 101 sat. You would need the Slimline to get HD, or an 18 inch round dish your all your SD. The round dish is quite easy to set up and find the 101.

Very soon, I would suggest the Slimline 3 for most people. Slightly easier to align.
BTW, if you usually stay in the same geographical region, you won't have to adjust tilt or elevation. Get a circular bubble level for the pipe and always set the pole vertical.
And if you are good at setting the tripod aligned North/South, you can even mark the pipe for a rough azimuth setting

But very soon won't be soon enough. Tailgating starts weekend of Aug 30th at most schools. Rumor has it that that dish will be available in September but probably not generally available until October or November. Bowl games will have begun by then.Tom Robertson said:
