What does the HR20 have against football?

Or perhaps it's just that they still haven't fixed the problem with a padded stop time. Under previous versions of the software, I had two and only two surprise reboots - both times, while watching a football game that had a padded stop, in the padding part of the recording.

Tonight, as I played catch up watching the Rose Bowl (Chicago LIL ABC 7), I noticed that the record light went out early (turns out, only 10 minutes into the 90 minute padded stop time I had set up). Sure enough, with 1:37 left to go in the game, I reached the end of the recorded portion and the recording froze. No "keep or delete", it just froze. It's still on the list, and I can replay it, but instead of the 5 hour total recording time requested, the recording is only 3:40.

At least under 0x10B the box didn't reboot, and the game was enough of a blow out that, I think/hope, I didn't miss anything crucial to the ultimate outcome.

But it looks like padding, though improved, is still not right. Time to go find my other padded recordings and change them back to the "and the programs that follow" method.

One other note: if we had dual live buffers, the tuner that had been recording the show would likely have started building a buffer, and I could have switched to that tuner and watched the last of the game.

:D

OK, I see in another thread that someone in another market had the same problem I did - they were recording the Rose Bowl using a 1.5 hour padded stop time, and the recording stopped after 3 hours and 40 minutes. The error message in the history was:

"This episode was recorded at 1:45p, Today and stopped at 5:25p, Today.
This episode was partially recorded because it became unavailable. (13)"
Was anyone watching the game live? Was there a glitch in the live broadcast at that point (1:37 left to go on the game clock)? If so, what was the glitch and how long did it last?

(I'm not talking about a switch to SD format and back, as that happened earlier in the game with no problem in the recording.)

don't know, but I also got the same message and mine cut off at the same exact time as yours did. 1 min 37 sec left in the game after 3 hours and 40 minutes of time. Weird...
I've stopped padding games and, though I consider it less elegant, just record the next program (or two) that follows a live event. I've had too many experiences with errors with recordings and their pads.
I think it is female.. hates sports in general...
Maybe the HR20 product manager hates sports ;)
I've had the machine hang ("Please wait..." I think) when entering ("Update") a pad interval for a scheduled sports event (I usually choose 1 hour). Once I waited til the next day and was able to hit "back", another time I had to RBR after waiting til the next day. Has anyone seen that? It still happens with 10b.
When reviewing this forum before getting my HR20 installed, I saw a couple of posts alluding to padding issues. I tend to extend padding on all my sports programs, but to be safe, since I got the HR20 I have just done what BJM is doing, and that is recording programs after that. Very inelegant for double-header football games when you want to watch the early game, but I guess better safe than sorry.

Definately hope they get the kinks out of padding soon, as it is important to me, especially for all the sports recordings I make.
It's a strange thing...I recorded two Charger games from the local CBS HD station and padded both games by an hour. Both times it stopped recording after 3 hours and 10 minutes. This past Sunday's game (on a local Fox HD station) went 3 hours 20 minutes before stopping. Got the "This episode was partially recorded because it became unavailable" message after that one. Only time it didn't stop was on the NBC games and I recorded those off the NBC HD west feed.
NFL Ticket games are the #1 quality of programs that I've recorded, followed by college bowl games and certain TV series. All recorded (and played back) without a problem.

I have heard of a few hiccups with padding, but only tried it 3-4 times, and they worked for me in those cases.

Good grief...if it didn't do football...it would be a Dish DVR (and pretty much useless). :D

I had the same issue with the Rose Bowl yesterday. I had it set to pad the recording time with an extra 1.5 hr, but it cut off at 3 hr 40 min.

The problem with the black screen recordings also seems to affect just football games. I've had several of those.
