It is having problems. Rmember, it is still beta and it states that when you can see the Music, Photo selection.
Hang in there. It will be back and probably a lot better.

For the past 6 months it had been working perfectly using both WMP11 and Tversity. WMP11 sees the HR21 and correctly identifies it and the HR21 shows the network to be working on the system test. I have tried everything I know to do, including talking to DirecTV but since my PC is not a Viiv processor they can't help me. Frustrated!!!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks, but I have tried this countless times and while the HR21 passes the network connectivity test, the Media Share entries on the menu don't show up.Ken S said:Andy,
This isn't unusual. Try this:
1. Restart your computer running the media server(s).
2. Restart your DVR.
3. Make sure your DVR passes the network connectivity test.
Give it a little time (overnight) and it may comeback. Sometimes it takes a few restarts. I've had it disappear for a week and the show up again.
I would review the port list for WMPNSS - my wifes Vista PC didn't show up because I had not unblocked port 2869 in my Norton firewall. After you open the ports you will probably have to restart the HR21. It should take no longer than 30 minutes (1800 secs) for media share to show up.andy2356 said:My HR21-700 received the OX235 software on 6/17/08. Since then Media Share has disappeared from the menu. Thanks! Although my setup is using McAfee firewall, my PC O/S is XP Media Center 2005, and my router is a Netgear, I will still check the port settings in the router. But whatever has happened, happened without my changing any router settings and I've determined that it started happening after the last update from D.bhelton71 said:I would review the port list for WMPNSS - my wifes Vista PC didn't show up because I had not unblocked port 2869 in my Norton firewall. The WMPNSS port list is located here:

Note - the ports list for XP and Vista are different as the sharing service is a different version for both.
For what its worth, On Demand appears in my menu today (7/2/2008). I don't know if it was there earlier or not. I suspect your issue may be the network connectivity and as suggested you could check there.andy2356 said:My HR21-700 received the OX235 software on 6/17/08. I feel your pain brother! I wish it worked too...I think the more complicated this DVR gets the harder it is to whack a mole (one problem goes away and the next one pops up, sometimes one you had a few moles ago).andy2356 said:My HR21-700 received the OX235 software on 6/17/08. I'm sorry people. I looked right at this topic and read "Media Share" but it somehow registered as On Demand. Wow. Please ignore my post above.SlimyPizza said:For what its worth, On Demand appears in my menu today (7/2/2008). I don't know if it was there earlier or not. Personnally, I don't care much for the beta On Demand service. Until content and search capabilities are improved I'm not likely to attempt to use it much. For example, I just searched for the series "The Universe" shown on the HIST channel. The search brought up the Record Series menu instead of giving me options to download. I did not want to record a series. I wanted to download a particular episode. Isn't that what On demand is supposed to do? Anyway, that seems to happen everytime. I guess shows on HIST channel are not a part of the On Demand offering. Seems that is the case for most anything I look for. I'm sure others find more use for this service. I hope so.
Holy Smokes Ken, this is a sah-wheat little player. I must get one of these. Thanks for sharing!Ken S said:Personally, we just got very tired of the poor quality of the HR2X mediashare function and bought www.popcornhour.com. It's new and a bit rough around the edges, but very easy to setup and it just plays the video, photos and music from TVersity and WMP. I'm sure it would work with others as well.
It also can server as a media server as well if you install a HD, but that's not necessary. All in all a very neat little device.
Sometimes you just gotta figure if they can't get it working correctly after two years they either don't know how or don't care to do so.
This is a neat-looking device and I will keep it in mind. Thanks! I also posted my dilemma on the Tech Forum on the DirecTV website and received the following response....Ken S said:Personally, we just got very tired of the poor quality of the HR2X mediashare function and bought www.popcornhour.com. The video portion is working better on the CE than the NR at the moment. Can't speak for photos or music.andy2356 said:This is a neat-looking device and I will keep it in mind. Thanks! I also posted my dilemma on the Tech Forum on the DirecTV website and received the following response....
" having the same problem. Sorry, no idea on a fix. Spoke with Direct's Internet Tech Support. They are convinced it is related to the software Ox235. Escalated the case to software engineers for review. They suggested they could roll back to old software, but that would only be temporary until the next automatic update and you would be right back where you are now. They recommend watching for another software update, see if the menu item returns, and reset dvr if it does not. Here's hoping it happens sooner rather than later."
Very interesting and a very different response from D's Tech Support than what I received.
Does anyone know if media share is working on the current cutting edge release?
Thanks. I checked my Netgear to make sure all the correct ports were open for XP, rebooted the server and thet network, and restarted the HR21 for the umpteenth time. Still no Media Share!bhelton71 said:I would review the port list for WMPNSS - my wifes Vista PC didn't show up because I had not unblocked port 2869 in my Norton firewall. I certainly understand that...I've previously had the CEs, but later switched back to the current NR, which served my needs well until OX235.Ken S said:andy,
no guarantees though...I've had CEs make it better than worse than better again.
