What is an HR24 "NCR"

I am trying to purchase an HR24 from an on line vendor. One of the vendors list it as HR24NCR and notes that it is replacing an HR24NC. Anyone know what the NCR means? The last HR24 100 I purchased was from Amazon for under $200. Now Amazon shows the HR24 Plus 400 available and it is $224.
They do have just an HR24 listed for $198. I assume the Plus means it has a larger hard drive (400 instead of 100)?

All HR24's have the same 500GB size hard drive (if they haven't been altered by a 3rd party vendor).

The 400 refers to the hours of HD content it can record on the drive (which is equivalent across the board on the HR24).

The difference between the last numbers after the dash refer to the manufacturer and are as follows:
-100 Thomson
-200 Samsung
-300 Philips
-400 Hughes
-500 Humax
-600 LG
-700 Pace
-800 NEC

I think the "NCR" means there are no cables or remote in the box, but I am not 100% sure avout that.

The HR24 NCRs that were listed on eBay included HDMI Cable, Power Cord, Component and RCA Cables, and Smartcard.

They're being added by the seller.

If you selling them you should know all these letters

And if you buy used, that smart card won't work anyway. DirecTV will probably make you get a new one for $20. Sometimes you can fool them into using an old one, but rarely.

You'll also want the ID so you can verify leased/owned status and that you won't be stuck with an expensive door stop. Buying used DirecTV boxes online is very risky.

If it's a real dealer then it has a new access card in it.

The "400" is for approx. hours of SD content. HD is 100 hours.

-100 is now Technicolor
- 300 is now Pace as well as - 700

You are the man and that is excellent information. I did check in with Directv on their website and they will ship me an HD DVR for $99. for being a "special customer". Of course it is probably a refurbished unit.

Just have a tech come and install it and you should get new. I just did the same and I got a HR24-200.

While he probably would have a better chance at getting an HR24, its not a guarantee. With an installer, when they confirm the appointment, you could at least say, bring an HR24 or don't bother coming.

They did tell me they flatout will not install HR 21's or HR22's anymore on a new install because of the numorous call backs. I believe that!

The HR 23 is fine with me , Sure if I paid $199 I would want a HR24 , but since it was $99 , I can't really complain.
