What is HDMI cable?

What does HDMI cable do? My still in the box TV has two such inputs.

If the DirecTV receiver is located 8' from the TV (25' the way the cable would run), would the HDMI cable be the only connection the TV needs(other than power)?

HDMI is a all in one solution so yes besides power it would be the only one you'd need.

For 25' you'll need a good quality cable.

Read the cable lenght section in this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI
Also check the cable supplier web sites, monoprice and blue jeans cable. They have some good info on cable selection.Whatever you do don't spend a fortune at the electronics store buying a cable. Buy from one of the good on-line suppliers. You'll get the same quality cable for a lot less money.

Don't interpret high quality as high priced. Those asshats at Monster charge $150 for a cable that cablesforless.com has for $10-15. My HDMI cable & HR20 works flawlessly.
You guys with an HDMI cable, did you route it inside walls? If so, any suggestions about a cover plate where the HDMI cable comes out of the wall?

I spent tooooooooo much time at Home Depot and could not find any sort of cover that would work.

I didn't route it into walls, as my HR20 and HR10 are right next to my TV... but if you need to, this is a good wall plate option:

If your going to make a long run (over 25') you will need a signal booster.
