For our new house, we went with a local installer for Dish who put in three 301's and a 508 to four locations. There are two dishes on the roof running through a 64 switch directly to each location (4 cables). In runing the cables he added a fifth for an OTA antenna to be installed in the next phase.

In the main viewing room that has the 508, we will also add a 6000 along with the OTA antenna. The OTA will only go to that room. There are two cable leads to that room, one being used by the 508. The 6000 and piggyback switches have come in from Dish and they are ready for install along with the antenna, but the installer says he needs an additional LBN for one of the dishes to get HD and that Dish says they are not available. So, long story short, we can't finish the project.

Anyone understand what the installer is talking about and the unavailable extra LBN?

LNB? I think maybe he meant LNB. LNB is the peice that goes on your dish its like the Antenna which actually picks up the satellite signals.

Did he bring a second dish for the HD setup? If not maybe thats why he could not finish.

You're right, ment LNB. Any yes, there are two dishes on the roof, mounted and apparently operational. At least I get both Satelites.

You should get 3 satellites if you have two Dishes

110 / 119

And then 61.5 or 148 depending on where you located.

Sounds like the second Dish is not hooked up yet. Maybe there is a problem with the LNB on the dish.

BTW Bob if we haven't welcomed you yet then Welcome to DBSTalk.COM :hi:

Hello Bob, and welcome!

I think I understand your problem here. You already have 4 receivers running from your SW64 from the 2 dishes. You are going to add a 5th receiver - the 6000. You have 2 lines running into the main room - one for the 508 and one for your future antenna. If you are planning on ADDING a 6000 to your setup, you will need either another SW64 to cascade with your current SW64 to add the 5th receiver, or you will need to replace the LNBs in both dishes and the SW64 switch with DishPro LNBs and 2 SW34 switches to get the 5 receivers connected. Also, you will need another cable run into your main room - one for the 508, one for the 6000 (both from the switches) and one for your antenna. Or you could use diplexors to run the antenna signal over your satellite line to the 6000 to avoid the other cable run (although it'd be better to have a separate cable for your antenna). You installer is probably referring to the DishPro LNBs not being available currently, although they should be - he probably just doesn't have them in stock. That make your situation clear as mud? :)

Or, you can use a quad DishPro lnb and an SW34. Connect the sw34 to a single DishPro lnb for 61.5 and two twin outputs to the sw34. Run cables for additional receivers from the two remaining quad DisPro lnb outputs. Note, however, that these two outputs will not get 6.15. Alternatively, you must use two cascaded sw34's.

Yeah, you're kind of between a rock & a hard place if you need a 6000 & 4 other rcvrs.

You can go with the new DishPro platform but you will need a DishPro adaptor for the 6000 and at least 1 rcvr will not see the "wing" satellite. That's probably the most economical way & you probably don't need the "lesser" locals on every box (if there are any for you on the "wing.")

If you have locals on the "wing" sat & you want them everywhere with your current set-up you will need to cascade another SW-64 with feed-thru loads & splitters.

Of course your OTA antenna may give you all the locals you need. It could be fed to every TV with splitters, diplexers & a good preamp or RF amplifier.

The set up that I proposed will allow for a 508 or even a 721, three other receivers, and a 6000. Thus, there are 6 outputs. Just two outputs would not have a wing satellite.
