Okay guys and gals just thought I would post My HR20 experience so far, and tell about the problems I am having...I will try to make this short, and edit a few things-here we go
1st month-great no problems. other then if you leave it on a station for more then 10 minutes you lose the ability to pause, rewind, record without freezing the box. Also it would lose my espnHd and a handful of other stations (yes lose them as in the banner would come up but they would never start playing till you reset the box)
this last weekend- Had my brother and sister in law over to watch tv pass out candy- cousins, uncle and other sister in law also stopped by. Turned on the Ohio State game, no pause, or anything...box starts acting really weird freezing, unfreezing. turn on the USC game same thing. Everyone leaves except my Brother and sister in law....Go to watch Americas funniest video off the hard drive, start it, it deletes itself. To make this paragraph short, I go into a series of resets that total around 25-30 before the box works (bad hard drive, very understandable). Called Directv on Sunday told them my problems they send me a new box. Fast forward a bit Wed, the box shows up. I hook up the box and get it up and running, great so far can fast forward pause everything. Start watching my cavs game, at 9 Lost starts recording and it takes me to that channel, try to turn back to the Cavs Game, and I get a message stating tuner two has no signal-yep thats right it has a bad 2nd tuner. I spend 2 hours on the phone with tech support getting hung up on no less then twice, and getting transfered a matter of 15 times (I have all the names and id numbers). Anyways one guy thought the second tuner was a second box in the room (this was tech support too!). After finally getting a nice lady, who understood what was going on, and telling her everything I did before i even called in (took off b band converters, switched cables, did every reset possible) she overnighted me a new box. Friday Box shows up, it has someone elses recordings still on it, and its still attatched to someone elses account, I cant get it activated for one hour and one guy flat up hangs up on me when he found out it was on someone elses account, anyways spend an hour on the phone with erica, a nice college student who dates a football player ( we had time to talk sweet girl really knew her stuff (directv if you are reading this, tim needs fired and erica needs a raise). Anyways she works her magic and gets the box off of the other persons account (mind you the account is still active so they must have recieved this box, and sent it right back to me without fixing it). Get it up and running she wants me to try a couple things pause, record, check locals, check HD...Everything is fine, she even had me check both tuners to make sure they both work. THey do signal is at 96 pretty much across the board. Hang up with her turn to 200 channels to make sure everything is coming in and I get the error searching for signal on Tuner 1, check tuner 1 again (I already had and it was great) see that I am getting 0's on every other transponder). Now if it is on my locals or local HD, or even something in the 240 and up range tuner one works, but if I turn to 200-239 tuner one goes crazy and gives me goose eggs...so I think my Directv taste in my mouth is now sour, I love their services and when this box is running its good, but at what cost do I have to pay to get these services, I will be going on my 2nd week without a box that works, sadly I think its time to call time warner as now i am hearing there are shortages of HR20, and Directv now tells me its my systems fault, and they want to send a tech with one in dec., yes one month away...by the way I still have my original Hr20 here and when I plug it in, it gets signal on both turners, and changes channels fine (it just loses channels until you reset it and wont pause or rewind for a while).
