I've seen one person post they were offered 6 months of Showtime for free. Anyone else been made offers when they try to cut off service due to issues with the HR20?

I hesitate to reply since I think it will just encourage more people to "nickel and dime" D* but I have been given 6 months of Starz free. No. I never did ask for it. They simply offered it.

I can't say that I'm even 80% happy with the recorder (not hating it either) but I don't think asking for or receiving free content would do much to relieve the discontent. Whiners will be whiners.

They did discounts on parts of my bill, when it took them a month to replace a dead box. Think I'll proabably save a couple Franklins over the next 6 months.

They tried to offer me a bunch of stuff free when they gave me my HR20 free.

But they couldn't do it cuz I already got the HD Package Free, Superfan Free, and
Showtime free.

Originally the HR20 for $99 with $19.95 shipping. After a few weeks and three canceled installation dates, we got the shipping refunded and another $150 in service credits.

I'm currently getting $15 off for six months, free HD package and free Starz. They tried to get me to take free Showtime again, but I declined. What is it with DirecTV and Showtime? Every time I call they offer free Showtime.

We received HR20 for free initially, told DirecTV that we knew the mpeg4 was coming out when we subscribed to HD package (Nov '05) and weren't going to buy another HD receiver when they came out. They agreed to replace/upgrade for no charge at that time...

1) 6 mos Showtime free after first tech in-house visit did not resolve problems.
2) 3 mos Starz free and $10 credit for 12 mos, after 2nd visit.
3) Another $10 credit/month (either for 6 mos or 12 mos. - need to check), after 3rd visit...
4) $99 credit for Super Fan package after writing letter to DirecTV's Office of the President.

- Luckily, HR20 has been working (some minor bugs still) ok since 4th in-house visit, and haven't had to call back for more tech visits.

BTW - we never asked for or requested anything (other than the unit working properly), all of the credits were offered by DirecTV.

Lets see:

Free ST and SF for this year,

3/4 of my CI paid for,

over a dozen free service calls

two 150.oo credits, one is 10 a month for 10 months with 30 off the top.

two different 4 month periods of free HD service. Total 8 months

free showtime 6 months, HBO half price 6 months.

One free month off my whole bill which is darn near 150 bucks with Opcion Espanol and Setanta, HBO and Sports Pak.

2 free HR20's and a 70 credit for the cost of a OTA I had to buy after the dufus installer messed up the install of the one they sent me, which now does not even work on the HR20, how ridiculous.

Last call they offered me the last thing, I think it was the shotime and half price HBO, I refused it and said I just want my stuff to work but they gave it to me anyway as it showed up on my bill.

Inciddentally, other than one HR20 free of charge and the install to change over at the initiall set up when they asked me over the phone to agree to a 2 year commitment, I never asked for any of this, I only wanted my stuff to work.

Oh, I forgot, we were offered Showtime as well but we had recently already added it so we could watch Dexter. :)

They gave me a whopping $5/mo credit a few weeks ago when I complained about the lockups and missed/failed recordings.

I called again since 0xEB was having the same problems, and they offered me free showtime, which I declined. I just want the damn unit to work!

Must be having a bad day. I talked to two people and all I got was "I'm sorry and we're working on it". The good news is one guys stated that they are pushing the OxEB tonight and the OxEF tomorrow.... We'll see.

Got my old TiVO hooked up as a backup for my NHL Center Ice games that the HR20 will not record. Free re-install, and free second box (TiVo) until they get that issue straightened out.

My situation goes back to August, when I (erroneously) got an email saying the HR20 was at Best Buy and I could order it (it was for L.A. customers only). When I tried to order, no good. I had already had a hassle in July with my AL9/H20 install (long story, but it involved an installer showing up at 10:30 on a Sunday night when he was supposed to come between 1-5). So that snafu got me 6 mos. at $20 a month off. Then, when the HR20 did become available at BB, I got it for $399. Wanted to order from D* but when I called, they said BB had exclusive distribution. The retention person gave me a $250 credit on the spot, plus an additional $20 a month for 6 months (remember the box was $399 at the time). In the meantime, the HR20 price dropped $100 to $299, so eventually I came out ahead on the price, about $70 to the good. I also got 6 mos. of free HD package in there some place.

Last but not least, when I needed to get a multiswitch, D* sent the same installer (by request) who had done my AL9/H20 install (good guy and smart) and he added three lines and the MS. I had already installed the HR20 myself. That all was at no charge.

So when it comes to pain relief, D* has done well. But, I would have given up a good portion of that $$$ if the HR20 had worked as my other DVRs had worked. Mine is working now (keeping fingers crossed on this latest download not changing that), after a reset everything, move to component, and removal of BBCs. Scared to hook the HDMI back up at this point.

After four missed appointments and misleading CSR call I was given 6 mos. of Showtime a $80 credit ($20 per missed appt.) on my bill. After the second missed appt. I was given a credit for my HD as well. I think it was six mos. but it may have been less.

My story goes back to my HR10 install in Dec 05. I was told I would receive my locals in high def. well that was obviously wrong so I called dtv and they promised me a free upgrade in a month when the new dish and box came out....well as you all know that didn't happen, but I had the reps name wrote down that promised me that, well each month I would check the status, and they would say not out yet... then all of a sudden my notes for my free upgrade got conveniently deleted from dtv. I was so upset... I called back and noone could find my notes... So I explained to a rep at the retention center what had happened and finally he fixed my acct... then months went by and too many calls to list I finally found out that the new box was out, so I set up my install and then they came here and could not get line of sight with the larger dish, the guy told me about the slimline that would be out in a month so I cancelled and waited, meanwhile my acct was charged for $250 for the new box so I had to swing throught hoops to get that removed and fixed.... finally got my slimline dish and HR20 and then the blurry picture and the caller id doesn't work, cut outs... etc.. Oh and the HR10 (with the better picture had it's share of problems too, untill the upgrade to 6.3 which happened a week before my install of the HR20, cut outs of picture audio, lip sinking...etc.. with the HR10) anyway my comps are as follows:

1. 6m customer $20 credit
2. 4 months free HD programming
3. 2 months free Babytv channel.

that's about it here... HTH:nono2:
