Whats going on in the Dish world?

1135 Views 4 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  nova828
I live in Maine, and I receive "local" channels out of New York. Sometime between yesterday, and today, I lost CBS, NBC, ABC, and FOX. What is up with this? Will they come back? Is there something wrong with my receiver?

Also, I read a stickied thread and it said that you may not be able to use DVRs soon?

Whats happening with the world?

Ummm... did you read any of the other threads (particularly the sticky ones) that would have answered your questions?
you lost your distant locals by court order, and yes the dvr may be next.

Army,

Yes, that subscriber did lose his distant services, although Dish now has another avenue for subscribers that qualify for Distant services to get them, although from different cities.

While its possible Dish could lose the patent infringment suit with TIVO, there is NO WAY that Dish can afford to lose the ability for Dish subscribers to use their Dish Network DVR's. There are several possible outcomes, but in each one Dish will have DVR service is some form. The Most likely would be paying a royality payment to TIVO "IF" Dish loses the litigation. TIVO has more to lose. If TIVO loses this suit the writing is on the wall. Without being able to SHAKE down other providers into paying the royality payment and without the cash reserves for another long Litigation, their in HUGE TROUBLE.

Dish has enough cash reserves to totally buyout TIVO, while that isn't as likely Dish does have that option.

Just to be clear TIVO was NOT the first DVR on the market. When the case gets to Federal courts TIVO will have a much harder time proving their case.

Where in Maine? If you are in the Bangor market the local channels came on in their place. Bangor locals launched on the same night we all lost distants. Check channels 2,5,7,12 and 22. If you are in Portland market, you should be getting local channels on 6,8,10,13,35 and 51. If you're in northern Maine, you may want to look into Direct TV.
