My guess would be that they are working on contracts and mainly the infrastructure of several new channels and they will be added when they are able to. I don't think there is going to be any gala or hoop-a-la, they will just start appearing. My guess anyway...

I think this is a very good guess. After the Olympics are done they will have more impact anyway. :)

Whatever comes, comes.

I'm glad that DirecTV is adding HD, but I'm not impressed with this rollout. I currently don't have Showtime, so those are useless for me. I don't remember the last time I used PPV and now with the 24 hour rule probably won't. The only one I might watch is ABC Family HD.

My guess is the 8 HBO/Cinemax they announced last year. It's possible they will add something else before then, but those are the only ones I'm completely confident we'll get. Both D* and HBO will gain revenue with those additions.

I agree however I won't even use ABC Family so not a big deal for me today.

I am only waiting for FNC and I will be satisfied as everything I watch now is in HD

I remember one of the mods saying that DirecTV was right now working with HBO on their feeds so that we'll get more HBO channels in HD.

I wish I'd bookmarked the post. Maybe somebody else with a better memory than I will know where it is.

I think I remember the post you are referring to. Something about waiting for HBO's new feeds that will already be Mpeg4 so DirecTV won't have to re-compress.

I appreciate DTV adding more HD Channels, but for me, this was useless. I don't watch Planet Green nor the Family Channel. I also don't watch sports. All that's left for me with this addition is SHO3 and SHO EXTR, but those channels only have all the same stuff that's on (or been on) the basic SHOWTIME (which I already have).

Me too.

Today's launch was kind of like getting a pair of socks for Christmas.

Let's remember that today's launch was just the first of many. For a lot of technical reasons, it was a resounding success even though it didn't give a whole lot of new channels.

A resounding success for DirecTV, and a resounding "Screw you" to Family, Choice, and Xtra subscribers.
Also, keep in mind, that if they are up to 130 channels, and they have the capacity for 150, there's not going to be too much more until the next satellite goes up late next year.

That was it. Implied in the post was that DirecTV was internally already receiving these channels from HBO and wasn't satisfied with the MPEG4 feed they were getting. They were working things out before they went live with them.

Those were announced like 18 months ago for launch in September 2007. I wouldn't get your hopes up...

I actually thought my response was somewhat cynical. Anyway, as far as I know, the announced 8 HBO/Cinemax didn't exist in September 2007. By the time the channels themselves launched, D10 was out of room. ABC Family HD was supposed to be added in April, but was delayed until now for the same reason.
