another whdvr threat.

i just got new instalation and free upgrade to whdvr. i have a hr24 in my room, and 3 h25's on the house. I like the idea BUT. since the dvr only has 2 tuners. i could have an issue with that. so i have some questionS

1. Can i share the playlist but not allow the h25's from schedule recordings

2. What happens when i am not at home and try to record 2 shows at the same time from my directv app but there already is a show recording from the h25's at that same time?

3 what happens when i have 2 shows scheduled to be recorded and one of the h25 tries to record one show (all at the same time)

i'd rather not opt to block the h25's as long as im sure that i wont get back home and find out that one of my shows was not recorded

4 (this is optional) can i not share certain shows on the playlist (HBO late Nights:p)

The H25's by themselves are only receivers. However they do allow you to set recordings for the DVR.

The DVR has two tuners, so it can only record two things at any given time. If you try to schedule a recording and it is already set to do two recordings, you will get a message/prompt asking what you want to do (which recordings to keep, which to cancel).

However, unless you specifically are sitting in front of an H25 trying to schedule a recording, they won't do that on their own. It really does not matter where you schedule the recording from (an H25, the HR24, or from an app or online source), it is still telling the same HR24 to do the recording.

2. When you schedule from the DirecTV app, you are prompted to "Definitely Record" or "Record If Possible". When selecting "Definitely Record", it puts that recording priority as number one and anything else that was scheduled to record gets bumped down. As there is no feedback when scheduling a recording via the DirecTV app, in this case you would not get any kind of recording conflict message in the app. You would need to go to the DVR and check the ToDo List/History to determine what will/will not be recorded.

So, if you selected to record 3 shows at the same time and selected "Definitely Record" for all three, the second and third show would be recorded as the first one would have been bumped down to #3 in the priority list.

If you select "Record If Possible", that show will only record if the DVR is free at that time.

4. You either share the entire DVR PlayList with all other receivers or none.

I believe there isn't a way to keep the recordings and their descriptions from showing up in the playlist, but you can use parental controls to keep them from playing the recordings on the other receivers can't you?

On each DVR you can filter which playlists show up, either just the particular DVR's playlist or all of them. You can't pick and choose. And, if it is a receiver, it doesn't have its own playlist since it can't record so you are either showing nothing or all of them.

That doesn't really answer the OP's questions.

He was describing potential scenarios he wouldn't have with a HR34 HMC with Clients setup.

My answer was perfect.

I would think that since the OP just got this as a new installation, they wouldn't want to pay for an upgrade to an HR34. They were also asking what they can do with their current setup for those scenarios.
