I have two 622's, one leased from Dish and one that I purchased because Dish would not lease me another since I also have a 211. With the apparent high failure rate of the 622's reported in this and other forums, I was wondering how I might go about getting the receiver that I own repaired if it should ever fail. Has anyone had to deal with this type of problem yet? I live in the Central Texas area and I have never seen any ads for companies that know how to work on Dish DVR's.

I must say that all the receivers have performed flawlessly to date. The one I lease from Dish is almost two years old and receives heavy use. Very happy now but trying to prepare for that day. Suggesting would be appreciated.:)

The best option would be to add the Dish Home Protection Plan (DHPP) onto your account and then have it replaced by Dish for free, then cancel the DHPP after it's all done. It's $5.99 a month. Or you could be like me and actually keep DHPP on your account all the time. :)

I do have the Dish Home Protection Plan but I thought this would only cover the receivers that I lease from Dish. Are you saying that my owned receiver would also be covered under that plan? If so, that's great news.

I own one of my 622's and I was told one by a CSR that if I needed to have it replaced under DHPP, the replacement receiver would be leased and I would no longer own it. That CSR may have been misinformed but it would probably be worth looking into.

All I know is that i have the DHPP and have gotten my old 501/508 model (which I owned) receivers replaced under it without issue. I can't imagine that they would take a reciever which you own and replace it with one which you do not. Now, in the case of an UPGRADE, that might be the case, but a straight replacement of the same type you should still own it.

But as MarkoC says, you might want to call them up and ask someone, ask 2 even if you don't get the answer you are expecting the first time. :)

That would make sense to me. If someone purchased a unit outside of Dish and Dish offers to replace it at their cost, it should be a lease. Or, the original purchaser can go buy another one at market value. Why should Dish just give their stuff away?

What is "outside of DISH"? If I buy it from the local Cell phone/DISH outlet, that owned receiver is RA'd with an owned replacement. Over time, the rules and cost has bounced around, but I recall $59 for a replacement owned receiver at some point. If I'd actually paid, I'd have a better recall. I never had the "insurance" until they announced they were going to close the $1.99 deal. I had that from when they were no longer offering it until they converted people on it to the $5.99 deal. I *THINK* I replaced an owned 501 during that $1.99 period, and know I replaced a couple remotes. It wouldn't have mattered whether I bought the 501 from DISH, an authorized rep, or from you - owned for an owned. In Feb or Mar, I bought a 942 from a DBSTalk member, but I've no idea where he bought it. DISH turned it into a 722 and I keep the 942. CSRs "said" I'd get a leased HD DVR, but in fact I still don't have anything via lease - it is all owned. Not what I was told would happen, but what all CSRs tell me now.

If I sold you one of my owned receivers, and you needed to RA it, would you expect an owned or leased receiver? I'd expect an owned receiver. If you don't sign up for DHPP, there is (or once was) some other $ figure for repair my receiver. The DHPP is supposed to cover everything with a DISH logo (more or less), as long as you don't cause the damage, open and mess with it, whatever else they put in fine print.

Well, I suppose since it has a Dish logo on it, it had to come from Dish sometime. :)
Point taken.
