I saw an interesting post at another site today and it got me thinking. When was your first experience of a DVR and when did you realize it would change the way you watch TV?

The post I was reading mentioned how the person didn't have to manage videotapes anymore.

My first experience was around 2000 with a Series 2 TiVo (Not the DIRECTV models). I thought pausing live TV was cool but once I realized I could just set up what I wanted to record and watch it later without having to make sure everything was set to go (tape in the VCR, etc.) I was hooked.

2005 and with Knology cable. I thought, "what the hey?!" A VHS recorder serves me fine, but I'll try out this DVR thing".

Last year and am now hooked, along with the kids...and that is why I am getting another. My next step will be to get a dvd recorder so that I can keep hard-copies...probably only a short 5 years away! My signature pretty much explains where I am at with the 'new' gadgets..

I first read about TiVo in 1998, when it was still on the drawing board. I was an early adopter, paying over $700 for my first Series 1 in 1999. Bought it on Amazon, IIRC. From that moment on, my viewing habits changed dramatically. I can probably count the # of times I've watched live TV since then on toes and fingers. :) /steve

I got my hands on a Dish Network 501 in April 2001. It showed me the potential of DVRs and I upgraded to a DTiVo a few months later. I added a 2nd DTiVo in Feb. 2002 and sold the 501.

TiVo now, TiVo tomorrow, TiVo forever :)

My first was a Mediacom cable Motorola DVR in April 2005.

Couldn't wait to try it out and now I can't imagine not having 1 (or 2 or 3 :hurah: ).

I think it was sometime in 2002, our main VCR had just crapped out. (damn that was a good vcr, one of those RCA's with true commercial skip)

My sister had given my dad a TIVO for a gift, we're talking a 70 year old without a real knack for electronics. He LOVED it! So we got a Series 2 TIVO (20 hour?) Season pass, what a concept.

Hi my name is Surveyor40, and it is now 8 years, 5 months, 2 weeks, and 1 day since I last watched " live TV " and mindlessly bought blank videotapes. Since purchasing my first DVR, a Sony Series 1 Tivo - SVR-2000, and adding several D*Tivo boxes since. I am finally free of the dreaded tracking knob, flashing 12:00 (power failure), forgetting to push the timer rec button, put the D* receiver on the correct channel, and nursing sore fingertips from pressing the tiny timer prog buttons (VCR).:D

What day did Replay Tv launch? And then subtract about a month from that date, because thas when I first saw it and wanted it, and knew it was the only way to go... And ah, yeah, that was before Tivo came out... (hey, I was working at good guys... we sold home electronics...)

December October or November 2001 when we got our first DirecTivo (Phillips DSR6000, a/k/a a "Series 1"). We were hooked. We got a second one as soon as they showed up again at retailer websites, which was about January '02.
