Well you people promised a patch for october 15, its now october 16, and NO patch .Dont worry, i didnt for a minute think there would be.Let me tell you that there will NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER be a patch for this.Menu --> system setup-->Upgrade , and it says what it always says. well may be next year but i wouldnt hold my breath .I mean they call this a Executive Directors Pack, and they expect a executive or some CEO to keep bending down every few days and pullin the plug on this thing, i dont think so, NO executive would use or put up with this garbage.
According to my gaebo it is scheduled for it's next software upgrade (version 5475) on 10-18-02 @ 1:20am. Will let you know what (if anything) happens.
I got a new GCEB0A from Directv, it has the Advanced Program Guide, pig (picture in guide) stays open for 3 days with video playing. It has software version 5605, I had it runing now for about 20 days, it looses about a minute and half around mid nite but this new software version corrects the time by 12:30 am with NO reset or re-boot at all. I know this to be a fact since all my caller id records are present from 20 days ago. So software version #5605 does fix most problems with the Hughes executive directors pack !My other GCEB0A has software version 5599 and it still looses time and requires a re-boot to reset the time,i see No Upgrade Available, so im having this one replaced with a ird thats pre-loaded with version # 5605.
i have the Advanced Program Guide, not the mpg, i see NO UPGRADE AVAILABLE, i really dont know what there problem is , its seems to be easier for them to just send out new boxes fed ex than to upload and send a upgrade to a customers box via satelite ! i rather have the patch sent via satelite but it just dont happen.you could be waiting 6 months for a patch, but fed ex could send it over nite.i would call directv and complain if your having problems, they will just refer you to hughes anyway.. have fun.
I had to fun the system test to find out what version my recv is at (5444). Still showing now upgrade available. I even checked my D* acct to see if they had the right systems for me. (They did)
I'll sit tight.. it won't be a big deal if I don't get it.
Hello, Mans,Mental and HarryD I was reading the post that you all put up about the Hughes GCEBO Executive director recv. Do I understand correct that the latest patch fixed most of the bugs on this recv. Please let me know if the next future upgrade for 10/24/02 helps the recv. I was thinking on getting the GCEBO, this is the APG model ? To replace my 485rg RCA. What problems does the GCEBO still have? Thanks for your help!
The long awaited download for the GAEB0/GCEB0 models has already begun. The new software version number will be 5075. Here are more details and the current download schedule:
October 14th- October 15th - will download at 1:20 AM PST to the state of Colorado only to customers with P3 cards.
October 16th - will download at 1:20 AM PST to the Mountain Time Zone to P3 cards only.
October 17th - will download at 1:20 AM PST to the Pacific Time Zone to P3 cards only.
October 22nd - will download at 1:20 AM PST to the Central Time Zone to P3 cards only.
October 23rd - will download at 1:20 AM PST to the Eastern Time Zone and to all cards including P4 cards.
On October 29th - we will begin a download at 2:20 PM PST to hit the retailers that unplug their boxes at night and missed the download.
Per DIRECTV, this whole schedule is based on call volume. If they receive a large amount of calls from this download, they will stop the download.
Here is the message the user will see appear on screen:
"Congratulations! You have just received a software upgrade that improves the performance of your DIRECTV(TM) receiver. During this process, your Favorites List and WatchWord settings have been reset. If you use those features, you will need to re-customize those settings.
Please press OK to return to video."
The download is optional so if the user is watching television he/she will get an option to do the download "Now" or "Later". If the box is off when the download comes, the user will receive the download. If the user does not choose "Now" or "Later" the box will automatically begin downloading. Once the download begins, it will take about 5 minutes to complete. Once the download is finished, the user will be taken back to video. When the user presses a key on the remote control or bezel of the unit, the message above will appear. To clear the message, the user must press "Select" or "Clear".
Here is a list of items that this download fixes:
Provides better audio/video processing to minimize video freeze conditions as experienced in some local-n-local spot beam transmissions.
Improves the performance of the Watch Word feature.
Corrects the behavior of Favorite Lists so that new channels are not automatically added to the list .
Corrects potential caller-id condition not displaying information on incoming calls.
Prevents intermittent double keystrokes and random channel change.
Improves tuner performance at channel change.
Updates all logos to the current advanced program guide versions.
Corrects some MDU transponder performance issues.
Corrects intermittent channel changes seen by some customers.
Even more great news!
The losing time and guide issues have been corrected in the HNS GAEB0A and GCEB0A models. A software patch was broadcast on Thursday evening. October 17th that corrects the issue. The IRD will not require a re-boot. The download will be completely transparent to the end user. The way to confirm the unit has successfully received the patch is to go to the "Test" screen to view the s/w version number. IRDs without the patch have version number 5599.0.3. IRDs with the patch have version 5599.1.3.
yeah i got that patch on my other ird, will see what happens in about 10-20 days since the way to make sure it is working is to watch your caller id records. if they disappear, the reciever is re-booting wich is no good. it already rebooted once, but will see.i have a APC ups battery backup on mine so even in a power failure, my reciever will not reboot.. As far as my other hughes gceb0a, that has version 5605 and there no problems with that. both have the ADVANCED PROGAM GUIDE, so remeber keep an eye on your caller id records, if they are there, then every thing is working right.
I received the patch about a week ago. The problems I have seen are the favorite button only works when you are in the guide. If you are watching a program and press the favorite button on your remote nothing happens. Second I have a universal DirecTV remote for one of my receivers and when you press guide it takes you to about ten channels away from the channel you are on.

...I dont know who this person is but he must work for hughes cause this is all bull. The patch most certainly does not work and it most certainly re-boots the reciever to correct the time. So if any one is recording there favorite show, dont be surprised if it gets ruined cause the way it corrects the time is to reboot the reciever, this wasnt true with the older boxes. Why would Hughes even release a product that doesnt work right ?This is no way for Directv or Hughes to treat there subs !!If every one call Directv and complain you will see how fast things could improve.
