DirecTV offers my locals but doesnt offer as many channels as Dish. Granted most Dish channels are religious and shopping but I'm a channel surfer and I love having mroe channesl to go through. DirecTV has more choices for equipment. But Dish's prices seem cheaper. Which do you recomend and why?

Welcome to DBSTalk.Com :hi:

You have asked something that is seen here quite frequently. Which is better, E* or D*? Well, the simple answer is that they are both great services. It really all depends on what you are looking for in the service. If it's for sports, DirecTV is the way to go. If it's for channel selection and pricing, E* has a slight advantage.

The best way to choose is to figure out which channels you really want. Then take a look at the channel lineup and packages for both services which are at your disposal on our home pages:

Next, figure out which equipment you will need. Are you soon planning to upgrade to HDTV? You might consider picking up one of the HDTV receivers that both services supply. Whatever you do, be sure to include a PVR. If it's Dish Network, go for the DishPVR 501. If it's DirecTV, pick up the DirecTivo or UTV. You won't regret getting a PVR. It will totally change the way you watch TV.

As far as PQ, both are pretty much equal though there have been some reports and tests that DirecTV has a slight edge. BUT, good PQ is in the eyes of the beholder.

I guess that's all for now. I'm sure others will chime in here with more opinions so hope we can help you make the best choice for your needs.

Both services are pretty much equal, so it's a tough choice. Each of them has their pros and cons. If you want sports (MLB/NHL/ NFL sports packages, YES Network) and more reliable equipment, then you should probably go for DirecTV. If you want a slight price advantage and a wider and larger selection of programming, then go for Dish Network. Bottom line: pick the service that suits you best.
