NBC. Won't be live. If you live near the Canadian border and get any of their channels, you might see it live. Other than that, it'll be 12 hours after.
Yep and no doubt edited as well to get a few more fluff pieces in like some gymnast whose aunt got run over by a hay wagon or some synchronised swimmer with a cousin (twice removed) who stutters and how that drove them to be the best darned synchronised swimmer they could be.

NBC Olympics is nothing without them wonderful sob sob stories.

+1000

I was in the UK during the 2004 Olympics in Athens and was forever spoiled by their coverage. Wall-to-wall on one channel or another. Minimal chatter, no sob stories, and - wonder of wonders - we actually were able to see all the sports featuring athletes from a large variety of countries.

NBC is glitzy and snazzy but nowhere near as good as what I saw over there.

Having said all that, I'm looking forward to whatever they decide to send our way and it'll be a bonus to have it in HD. I just know it's not nearly as good as the poobahs at NBC think it is.

:rolling: :thats:

They seem to market the traditional olympic events towards the old fashioned stay at home "soap opera mom" and the elderly. Luckily the soccer is uninterupted and if you know Spanish the commentary is actually bearable on telemundo, but just 5 minutes of listening to Marcelo Balboa on MSNBC made be want to shove ice picks through my eardrums. I hope he only does the US matches and steers clear of the NBC Olympics Chanel.

NBC will have live coverage:

"The NBC network schedule is divided into three dayparts: afternoon, primetime and late night - for a total of 225 hours of coverage over 17 days beginning with the Opening Ceremony on Friday, Aug. 8, at 8 p.m. ET.

Primetime on NBC will feature live coverage of all 32 swimming gold medal finals; four key nights of men's and women's gymnastics led by the women's and men's team gold medal finals, as well as the women's and men's individual gold medal finals; beach volleyball; and, for the first time ever, both men's and women's marathons."

Live opening ceremonies are on now, CBCHD. Beautiful, although having a bit of a signal loss issue.
Taunting us, are you?

LOL.

I don't care if they are live or not. They are pageantry not competition. It is like requiring Monk or Eureka or the Simpsons to be live.

BTW, on 455 (CCTV9), you can see bits of the ceremony in the monitors behind the talking heads live, not to mention the fireworks through their window as they are "just across the street."

on a grand scale. How anyone can choreograph 2.000 to 3,000 people is beyond me. You don't want to miss it. I just hope NBC doesn't mess it up with Bob Costas or some motormouth that thinks he's/she's more important than what they're showing. The only thing missing from this morning's performance was Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake :) ,...sorry, I couldn't resist :)

Or if they do, hopefully their voices will be properly centered, so we can just disconnect the center channel and still hear the music. Actually, MY biggest problem with NBC's past Olympic coverage has been bad macro-blocking. Even OTA, it always looks bad. Do we need to start a collection for some better encoders?

...except if you live in the Pacific Time Zone, where ALL of NBC's OTA programming will be shown on a three hour delay, which just sucks.
what about people who live in Honolulu? :(
