Who Currently Makes DirecTV's Set-top Boxes?

Hmm, kind of an odd question but I was curious...

What companies are making the current STB's for DirecTV?

I know Thomson is in there to some degree, but are Humax and Samsung still making boxes for them? Who makes the HR20/HR21?

thanks

Welcome to DBSTalk!

It depends on the -XXX number. You can look them up here:

The Thomson (-100) line was sold to Audiovox not long ago.

How did you find this out? Was it posted somewhere on the web?

Yes, it was in late 2007 or early 2008. The bought the RCA components business first, followed by the rest (except for Europe). I found a few references with Google, including this one.

Also see http://phx.corporate-ir.net/phoenix.zhtml?c=91378&p=irol-newsArticle&ID=1091106&highlight=. This indicates that televisions and some other (unspecified) products were not included, so now I am a bit confused.

:welcome_s to DBSTalk.com WholeHomeDVR, Info is pretty much spot on, thanks.

I know that the TiVo's are pretty much dead (for now) but RCA/Thompson/Audiovox also made the R10 and Hughes was the manufacturer for the HR10-250.

bobnielsen, that was a very interesting link that I was not aware of, thank you.

Thomson still manufactures set-top boxes, but everything with the RCA brand has been licensed to third parties. The audio/video line is Audiovox, and most if not all of the TV line is made by TCL in China through a Thomson/TCL joint venture names TTE.
RCA has had a few companies making "RCA" products for awhile now. They have not really been their own company for quite awhile.

Its amazing how many brands in this country that people are loyal to really mean nothing these days.
