Yes, HD receivers work independently of DVRs.

Whole home DVR question
Hello. I'm looking into getting whole home DVR. I understand you need an additional HD receiver to record and watch recorded shows in othe rooms. My question is, is it possible to watch a live show without involving the DVR receiver in one of the HD receivers? For example, if the DVR receiver is already recording 2 shows, can you watch a separate live show with no DVR features in an HD receiver?
