I feel its almost like watching on the actual DVR now. There is a bit of lag but that is just the design of MRV. They keep making improvements to the HR series and they keep getting better with every release.
Whole Home Setup and Speed/Slowness
I used to be with DirecTV and had two DVR's (HR-24 I believe) and one non-DVR HD receiver (HD-24???).
Anyway, when I would watch programs from either DVR (recorded on either), the speed of FF, REW, etc. was fast. But when watching from the non-DVR it was painfully slow. It would take 5 seconds or more to start the FF process after the button was pressed.
My question is, is this still the case?

It's a network latency thing the receiver has to get the command process it send to the HDDVR the HDDVR has to receive than process the command than update the stream. The delay has gotten better, if you compare it to the dual room of Dish (I have not read up enough on the Hopper to have a opinion it yet) or the response of the HMC RVU client unit D* has put out it's still slower.
I personally will take the MRV system over the dual room DVR's from dish I maintain individual channel ability with out sacrificing one of recording tuners on my DVR(s)

People have very different experiences and often times it comes down to the quality of the cabling. Unfortunately there isn't always sufficient testing on the installer side to guarantee the best experience.
My HR23 has slowed down a lot with the HDGUI but I will say that MRV trick play feels pretty close to trick play on the local DVR
I currently have two hoppers and one joey and the joey is just as fast as the hoppers when watching recorded shows. No latency at all. I couldn't believe how fast it was when I first tried it.
The only latency I see is when I start the program. The initial load. After that, it is quite responsive.
When you fast-forward a remote recording the auto-correct is still screwed up. Seems the longer your fast-forward the further it jumps back when you come out of fast-forward. It is difficult to use FFWD because you don’t know where the auto-correct will leave you. It has been this way since day 1 and I haven’t seen ANY improvement in it.
One of the ‘low-priority’ fixes they haven’t gotten around to fixing… I wouldn’t hold my breath on a fix coming any time soon. You’ll to use the 30 second skip/slip to avoid the trouble.
Others have said this an MPEG4 problem but because it works correctly on local recordings and on Dish Network somehow I doubt it.
