Question: Is this possible with either of the two DVR's?? Can I pick the HR22 from the HR21 or vice-versa??

Unfortunately, no. You can only record to the single DVR. You can't choose which one to record to.

No, unfortunately, you can't do this. It's a feature that's been requested though, and will hopefully show up soon.
What would REALLY be nice is automatic spill over. Receiver wants to record 3 programs at once? Does the other DVR have a free tuner at that time? Record it on the other DVR. Of course, this kind of limits the purpose of the HR34, so I don't see them implementing it lol

I upgraded to Whole Home yesterday. Today a member of D*'s QWIT team (quality assurance) dropped by to ensure everything was done correctly (this is a first!!). Coincidentally, I asked him the exact same question, but he didn't know the answer. I guess now I have an answer. It sure would make sense to be able to configure your recordings from one DVR. I hope this feature is made available soon!

You can do it from DirecTV's website also. Just sign in and go to the guide. From there you can chose which dvr to use.

Figured there wasn't a way of doing it from the remote!! I know you can do it from different phone and computer connections, but that is just another step from another room for a lazy old man!!!!!!
