I noticed my bill went up the other day. I called dtv and was told my 24 months ended.
Why are we still being charged for hd? Its a mainstay at this point. I figured they would extend it as many stated on here but no luck. So i removed autopay. Oh well

I guess but having 24 mo without paying seems like an easy segway to just eliminate the charge, not to metion if you don't have hd how would you know if someone else is paying for it or not? or care as long as wat you have works.

Not only that but you now have a situation where LONG time customers of DirecTV are now being charged $10 per month ($120 per year) more than folks who have only been customers for a very short time but now have free HD for life!

That's exactly what I told them as well. My contract with D* is up in December. I will wait until then to see what kind of deal I can work with D* as that is also when my 24 months is up.

Mine also expired this month. Called and got 24-month extension. Extended my contract 24 months, but I don't care; I'm not going anywhere. Maybe that's why they gave it up so easily: I've been out of contract for at least a couple of years.

I agree. HD by now should be de-facto. It's way past the time it was considered a novelty and a premium service. For crying out loud - it comes in for free via OTA. I've been out of contract for some years now, I'm getting closer and closer all the time to dumping pay TV, period.

The price is the price. Don't charge for hd and they raise the base price.

At least this way you can get it waived. Good luck with a base price.

Honestly, if the price was the price I wouldn't have as much of an issue. The point is that those of us who are long time customers are getting dinged an extra $10 per month. And since it was offered as "free HD for life" it is a very different situation than promotional discounts that have an expiration date.

One phone call and you get out of it.

Yeah and when they raise the base packing prices everyone will stage a revolt
Well, I predict a large handful will b**** and moan like crazy, another handful will try to mollify or shame them, and the rest will sing, "Obladi-Oblada" etc. A few will leave in a huff for Dish, a very few for cable, and a couple of complete cord cutters will feel righteous.

Really? Not consistently. This should not depend on CSR roulette.

I hated that $10.00 charge for HD when i was with directv,I have ow been with verizon fios for over 2 years and they dont have that $10.00 charge and have NEVER EVER seen or read a complaint from an sd customer complaning about paying the same price for their tv package. If you dont want HD thats up to you at least you know if you get an HD TV later and upgrade the cost will still be the same!!That HD pack is nice but they should put the sony channel with one of the premiumn packages and you shouldnt have to pay extra for the other hd channels ,just put them with your premimum channel package.

I have been a Customer for 8 years. When the HD for life came out for new customers I called DirecTv and they offered me the 24 month discount if I signed up for auto pay. I never have like auto pay option for paying bills so after talking with them they gave 6 month discount. For the last 2 yrs now I call them and they give the 6 month deal as I need to. I hate having to fool with having to remember when due date is but I'll keep calling until something else occurs. This thread did remind me to check my bill and my 6 months are up after Aug. bill so I need to call.
