Last night would have been perfect. Roddick getting killed again along with the Skins pitiful offense and the RNC...

Couldn't the box simply do pnp? Does TIVO boxes do this?

Soon? I hope?

No, I don't believe Tivo does either. I agree that it would be a fantastic feature to have. You can always hook up two receivers to one TV and pay the extra $5/month, but most people wouldn't want to pay the extra.
Sounds like a great feature to add to the Wish List!!!
Before they do that I suggest they rewrite their code to be faster.

Or start giving people hardware that is significantly faster.
IIRC, the decoder can only handle one stream at a time.
time warner sa8300hd box has PIP. my pioneer 5070 has PIP, but one has to be one of the RF inputs. cant do two external inputs at once.
What??? No PiP with D* boxes yet??? What's up with that???

I have had PiP on both my Dish and Comcast SA boxes like forever! :D
I use PIP by having my DVR hooked up to one TV input and an OTA antenna hooked up to another input on my TV. That allows me to watch one program on satellite and another program via OTA at the same time. I don't use PIP enough to justify paying for another receiver, especially since one of the programs is usually OTA anyway. Last night I used PIP to watch the Giants game and Yankees game at the same time.

I think I remember reading that too, but then I think there was information that refuted it since it has the same decoder as the Dish receivers... I'm really not sure if this is true, as I'm going from memory, so take it with a grain of salt.

FWIW, they also said the current receivers wouldn't be able to do 1080p.
If you have two HRxx's, a Harmony programmable remote and a Panasonic HDTV, which has it's own PiPView, then you're set. I have mine set up so I can swap audio, change to other tuner on my HR10 or change the channel on my HR21. One of my favorite and most used features.

This is what I always did too, until I upgraded my TV this past February. My new set doesn't have PIP, and I've been missing it ever since.

I believe this feature is a DISH Network exclusive among satellite [strike]and cable[/strike] STBs.

The didn't say it couldn't be done; it just wasn't supported and there wasn't an LED indicator for it.

TiVo may well show us what can be done with the hardware. DIRECTV whines that such features will interfere with other features that are a higher priority.

With all due respect, the SA8300HD box is a piece of garbage. This is the only feature where it can surpass any other box. Keep in mind that PIP in the 8300HD is using processing that they don't use for that horrible guide, the broken parental controls, the almost complete lack of conflict resolution, etc.
