I have the "Ultimate" package and have 8 channels of Encore. However, only one is in HD. I really only watch HD which is why the other 7 channels don't get much use. Sometimes they show a movie that is on SD but later on will be in HD. But my question is why? I know it's owned by Starz, but i believe Dish carries Encore in HD on all the channels? Is there a reason DIRECTV does this? I am paying for it.

There are only one or two more of the encore channels available in HD. Directv just hasn't turned them on yet for some reason. But most of them aren't even in HD yet.

Encore Action and Encore Drama are broadcast in HD. We just have to wait for D* to provide them to us.

I think you are getting confused with the Indi-plex & Retro-plex Encore channels, which DISH DOES carry in HD (only) - and which DirecTV does NOT carry at ALL, but supposedly has an agreement to carry later on.

But as far as the actual "Encore branded" thematics - BOTH Dish & DirecTV ONLY carry the main Encore E feed in HD. And as already stated, the only other Encore thematics even available in HD, are the Action & Drama channels.
