Why is my R-15 recording pay per views?

I just noticed my r15 has been recording pay per views and putting them in the showcase tab. How long has this been going on and can I stop it?

This is a new feature that DirecTV is pushing down to receivers. Your Showcases tab will be renamed Movies Now & Showcases in the near future. This is DirecTV's version of true Video on Demand. The idea is that you want to watch a PPV and don't want to wait to the next airing or don't want to record it and then watch it later. The storing of these movies is located in the reserved space on the receiver that DirecTV currently uses for Showcases so it will not affect your storage space. Check out the full thread over in the DirecTV Plus HD DVR Discussion forum.

Are these purchases blocked if they exceed the parental control spending limits?

YES. The recording will still be downloaded to the reserved space on the HDD, BUT, if you try to purchase/play the item, you will be asked for the parental control password if they are over the rating.
Another way to secure this is to set your PPV purchase limit to 0.01 until you're ready to actually purchase a PPV, then set it back when you're done.

An even better way of eliminating the possibility of "accidentally" purchasing one of these movies from the Showcase tab is to do like I did. Call DirecTV and tell them you want to have IPPV (Impulse Pay-Per-View) disabled on your account. This is a free service. After doing this, your receiver will block any attempt to order ANYTHING that costs money with your remote control without having to fiddle around with the parental controls. You get a message "check phone line-error #7XX" if you try even if your phone line is plugged in. (like mine still is so I can utilize the on-screen caller ID feature)

Of course, you can still order PPV movies on DIRECTV.COM or via the automated phone system, but why bother now that they get erased only 24 hours after you start to view them?
