I understand that there may be an issue with guide data affecting whether or not the channel is even available when it sould be. Apart from that, there are channels that I recieve perfectly when I hook my h20 up and only "slideshow" when using the HR20.

Putting out a tuner with the same capabilities as the model already on the market should not be tremendously difficult. I can understand dvr issues, that's a new feature. I sure hope they didn't try to save money by going with an inferior chipset for the OTA tuner.

Other than a minor issue with the my playlist UI, this box has worked very well... that and this OTA tuner being completely useless because it can't tune a single channel.

Some of that could still be bad channel mapping in the guide, but if not:

The following have a pretty amazing effect on receiving OTA channels:

1. Signal too strong
2. Signal too weak
3. Line length needs to be adjusted

While none of these things SHOULD be a concern, they are.

Try making up (or finding) some short lengths of feedline. Get a few double female F connectors from your local Radio Shack. Then try inserting varying lengths of feedline (6", 12", 18", etc.)...and see if the channel you are having problems with magically appears. If you can't make your own jumpers, use ones laying around of various lengths and combinations.

I've done quite a bit of experimenting and found the line lengths can be critical (indicating an impedance matching or multi-path problem), and getting just the right signal level that the HR20 likes helps as well.

This doesn't mean the tuner in the HR20 is OK...it's just a way to make it happy so you can use it until they figure out what they are doing at D*.

The tuner in my Sammy HDTV is far superior to that in the HR20 in terms of:

1. Dynamic Range (the range of decodable signals from the strongest to the weakest)

2. Line-length issues. (although there are still important differences that I notice even with the Sammy in terms of adjusting line length)

Hope this helps, while we're waiting for them to improve OTA in the HR20.

HMMM I have an old RCA HD receiver and now the HR20, HR20 is working just as well as the od RCA HD D* rcvr for OTAs. Actually geting more channels on HR20 since for some reason splitting and using a diplexor on the old unit is causing some signal loss so my local PBS wont come in.

Which model H20 do you have?
While the H20 & the HR-20 are D* units, there are three manufactures, each using their own designs. The H20-100 is made by RCA. The H20-600 is made by LG. The HR20-700 is made by PACE.
From what you're describing, you have a H20-600 which has the best OTA tuner of the three.

I have to agree with Cleophus. I can hook the antenna up to my Panny TV and get great signal strength (75-90%) but when I move it to the HR-20 the strength is only 40-60% and continuously drops to "not aqcuired". Is this a chipset issue or a software issue?

Same issues with me as well. I've got 3 local stations that broadcast in HD, on the HR20 I get one in all the time (NBC 16.1), the other two are hit & miss. Earlier today I was unable to get CBS (22.1) or Fox at all. Now I'm able to get the Fiesta Bowl on Fox (28.1) with no problems, tomorrow will probably be another story. I also have no problems when going through my tv......weird!
