Will DirecTV carry the "NBC Olympic Soccer Channel"/"NBC Olympic Basketball Channel"?

NBC has released the schedule for their remarkably extensive coverage of the 2008 Summer Olympics. I'm not one to pat any network on the back, but really, this kind of devotion to coverage is something to be commended, I think.

Anyway, it can be found here: http://www.nbcumv.com/special/S__Press_DEPTS_NBCMV_Press_Kits_2008_olympics_schedule9.pdf

You will note that there is reference to a dedicated "NBC Olympic Soccer Channel" and a dedicated "NBC Olympic Basketball Channel". Folks at AVS have suggested that Comcast and Cox have deals in place to carry these specialty channels throughout the Olympics. Does anyone know whether DirecTV has done the same?

The document states that they have agreements with major sateliite companies
I guess it's at least a 50/50 that it's Directv.

It has been hinted here by those in the know that an announcement is forthcoming... I would be shocked if these two channels are not picked up by Direct TV -- I just hope they are available to regular subscribers and not not just those with HD pack.

why would it be HD subscribers only? There is no mention of these channels actually being in HD so I don't think it would be HD subs only.

As for that, satelliteracer has stated in this thread (http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=132761&page=2)

In February the first 3 months free offer of HD Extra Pack ended. However, it was brought back on June 25th so if you don't have HD Extra Pack, sign up now and it will carry you through the Olympics.
I read this as something of the Olympics will be in the HD Pack and the HD Pack will be free to those who sign up for it during that period. Cancel it right after.

Yes they will be in HD. There will be SD versions too however.
Just got off the phone w/DirecTV & the lady said that they weren't given any information about adding a dedicated channel. She also said, though, that she didn't know anything about the addition of extra on-demand stuff for the Olympics, either, so take that as you will.

I'd really like to be able to get access to the soccer channel, though. Ugh.
I saw a commercial this morning advertising the fact that DirecTV will be showing the Olympic Soccer & Basketball channels.

no need to cancel right after. HD extra pack is free for 3 months if you call up now.

The Universal HD channel is in the HD Extra Pack and will carry a lot of Olympic programming (I think it is mainly simulcasts of what will be on some SD channels, like MSNBC).

Thanks for that heads up - I could enroll in this online as well!
FYI I actually saw a commercial today from D* with a guy talking about the special channels. The channels were in the 700's like 760 or something like that and it believe it was about 6 dedicated channels. Anyway, just about to check there to see if they are listed yet.
750-756 are the channel range that directv.com is stating they have set aside for the olympics.
