I had the roof replaced and now have to realign the dish...can I use this just to check signals? TIA

You can also tune to Channels 100 and 201 on an unactivated Recevier.

Sometimes that is enough. As I was finishing a multi receiver installation I asked an elderly family member if he would like to have help turning on a movie or something. His set was still running on ch100 and I was testing activation. He said, "I just want to watch her!"

I use dead receivers all the time just for tuning.
