Will this dish location work?

1403 Views 17 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  IDRick
I am sitting on the fence between E* and D*. the first to get Fox News HD gets my business. The attachment shows the dishpointer results for my home. I need to put the dish on the NW corner of the house (necessary for proper grounding solution). Will this position work? I'm a bit concerned about the trees on the west side of the house (about 15 ft away from the dish). Will they block access to the 129 sat?

Thanks!

Direct has Fox News in HD, so 129 is a moot point.

They do?
I doubt you would get the 129 sat because it is lower in the sky. You would probably have to put up a dish pointed at 61.5.

Hmmm, I thought 61.5 was primarily for those east of the Mississippi river? We're about 1200 miles west of the Mississippi.

Whoops,
They only have Fox Business News. Sorry about that.
Don't watch Fox and keep forgetting those are seperate.

I live in Couer D Alene part time, and have no issues with 129

Hmmm, I've been following both the E* and D* forums closely. Both have recent messages on FNC, mostly asking when will it arrive. Hopefully, both will get it soon! :)

Yes, I know, its Fox Business News, not Fox News that Direct has.
No problem Grumpy. I was typing and didn't see your correction before posting. Best,

Rick

Oh no problem, I had no issue with posting twice when I was wrong. You also forced me to open up Google earth, and start marking my map on for the upcoming Elk/Deer seasons. Its never to early to start planning you know.:D
You seem to be further south of me, so I don't think getting 129 will be an issue for you.

LOL! Great Idea! I'll have to check out my hunting spots!

It is but you may still be able to get it if there are not tall trees in that direction.

The OP is in Idaho. 129 should be higher than 61.5
I didn't say the 129 was lower in the sky than 61.5. It is lower than 119. The west side of Idaho is at 117 degrees longitude. If he puts the dish near the peak he should easily be able to get the 61.5.

Interesting! Unfortunately, I have two tall trees in the way (east and SE side of house). Also, we do get significant snow fall in eastern Idaho. The dish needs to be accessible from the ground for occasional removal of snow.

Dishpointer is very cool for reviewing alternative dish locations. But, I don't know how wide the spread is between satellites. At the dish, what is the angle of spread between the four main E* sats (see attachment in OP for relevant sats).

Thanks!

Rick
Run dish pointer for all three satellites.

You 'll probably find you can see all from your site.
I've been waiting on Fox News HD, as well. CNN HD looks good, but I find CNN boring.

Alright, good tip! Looks very close with the 129 sat, could have potential wind interference on the southernmost tree though... We'll have to see!
