Well, I was just using the headline they used on their website... and by 'Mid-South', I think they mean Eastern Arkansas, North Mississippi, West Tennessee....
News Channel 3 should be the next station in Memphis to step up there news cast to HD. It's about time that these stations get there news out in HD.
Channel 5 in Nashville went HD over 18 months ago. Evidently WMC doesn't consider Nashville part of the Mid-South.
So if Nashville and Memphis are in the Mid-South, what would be in the North-South? Obviously, New Orleans and Miami would be in the South-South, but would Birmingham and Atlanta be too? :)

I this case, I think "Mid-South" is the PR writer's over inflated ego term for "Memphis".

I was just curious about the digital switch with Memphis Channels. I currently live in Jonesboro and am able to pick up Channel 24, 30, and some times Channel 3 in DT, and was wondering if any of these channels were planning on strengthening their signals before Feb 17?!? Thanks for your responses, and have a good day.:)
I hope the Memphis station has less pixelation and audio stutter than Channel 5 in Nashville has.

As I stated, West Tennessee, North Mississippi, and Eastern Arkansas is known as the "The Mid South"... This isn't a term that WMC made up... Everybody in this area uses that expression...

I have my own name, and you won't find it in wiki....

But its nice to see that the aluminum cans, barbed wire, and duct tape have been replaced by some real HD equipment in Memphis. They deserve it.

Of course, it may take another 8-10 years to learn how to use it... :D

(Forgive me...I'm in one of those moods).
That's strange that they are just announcing this. I sent an e-mail to the station's general manager last week that there had been a steep drop in their signal strength after recent lightning storms. He replied to me to trim my trees. What an idiot. You think he'd at least have someone check it out. I guess he's too pre-occupied with the HD News launch.

Regardless of who made it up, it is just that, made up. They're just trying to catch up having been scooped once again by Nashville.

Kinda like how Nas Vegas is made up? Get off it. I didn't realize this was a competition.

Your just jealous your city can't be on the First 48 nearly half of their episodes because there is so much crime in your city.

I haven't heard anything about them doing that. About all I can tell you is WMC is moving from digital 52 to 5 and WHBQ is moving from 53 to 13.

Made up or not, this isn't some new phrase. This has been known as the Mid South area long before I was was born and I'm in my 40s.
Why so defensive, Memphites? The Fords are still in charge so everything will be fine, eventually, once they all finish their terms.

I think we all benefit from Memphis' preference to be associated with Arkansas and Mississippi.

Now, can someone please sound the steamboat whistle?

;)
I think we will ALL be in trouble if/when Ford JR runs for presidential office.

WMC-DT is currently at 50% of their licensed power for DT. Next February they will be going to full power when they do the frequency shuffle and turn off their analog.
All I can say is I am glad to see WMC TV in Full HD. The News looks a whole lot better in HD and I would expect News Channel 3, Fox 13, and ABC 24 to soon do what WMC has done and that is to broadcast in Full HD there news.
